Default High rev electrical problem

Hi all again.. I've had this problem for a while now....2002 curvy

When the bike goes over 6 thou. rpm under heavy acceleration it starts cutting and spluttering, almost as if it's hitting the rev limiter..

I have already...
done a full service, plugs, fiters, oil.
Changed...
The coils
The CDI
The Hd leads and plug caps
The carbs
Cleaned every electrical connection I could find....

All this to no avail !!!!

Do any of you know someone in the West Mids who is a wizzard with these bikes???? I did try a mechanic and he said, yes it's electrical but he would have done all that I have!! I realy just don't know what else to do...Getting tired of throwing money at it though....

It has been a graduall problem, becomming harsher and more frequent as time went by....Now it's a permanent thing and I'm worried it's going to damage the engine.....

Help please

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be air supply to the motor. It started out not so bad but got worse as the paper filter got more dirty. Put a highflow filter in and fixed it right up!

But I see you've already done the filter...hope you get it figured out.

Got a decent earth connection for both the engine and wiring loom?

The air filter was dirty yes but it made no difference with a new one fitted..

I have checked the earth on the battery but not the loom and engine...as soon as the rain stops I'll have a look at them...

I did clean up and fit new conectors to the starter solenoid (the one under the right hand side pannel) if thats the one you mean?

Thankyou all so far

I fixed one like this a while back that was caused by the sidestand switch, presumably it was vibration that caused the misfire, anyway switch out of circuit and all was well.

Worth a look - although generally they either work or don't, rather than causing a misfire.

The little wire can get a bit 'dry joint'* where it connects to the pickup and gives these symptoms, like you say, if it is the pickup itself it'll be a bit more binary operational state!!

*This happened on another bike of mine, not the SV, but the concept should still be the same.

Thumbs up Re: High rev electrical problem

I do believe it's fixed

It was the earth cable to the engine....i cleaned it up and the problem has gone.....

I did try the side stand switch too...decided to leave it bypassed now, one less thing to go wrong in the future.....

Thank you all very much for the great advice
