Question Bike Battery to Satnav?

http://www.gpsforless.co.uk/product_details.php?id=5558

how easy would it be to modify a standard car charger device to run off the battery of the bike instead? (like the charger above)

What would happen IF u cut off the big chunky end bit that slots into ur cig.lighter in the car....and then re-wire whats left up to a bike battery?

in the end all you are doing is changing how the device makes contact with the battery?!...so in theory is this possible?

ps - i DO have a spare bike battery in the garage...i am not that mental...

Go to Halfords

Buy a Cigarette Power Adaper Socket.

Fit it under your seat (direct connect to the battery if it has an in-line fuse)

Plug Adaper into Socket and bingo !

David

PS wait till Baph ok's this crackpot scheme before actually doing it, wouldnt want to cause Death or something.

Yeah, I have done this for charging my mobile phone using a car charger. Hard wired onto battery terminals (with inline fuse), power socket is stored under seat. When out I keep my phone and charger plugged in and also under the seat. As a bonus, at home I have wired a cigar lighter type plug onto my trickle charger so that I can use the same socket as a charge point when the bike is going to be sat for a week or more.

I used a car lighter socket extension lead from Maplins, cut it and wired socket end onto battery and the plug end onto my charger. Cheap to do, and it means that if you have more than one bike, you can do the same job and share chargers / power adaptors. It also means that you can still use the adaptor in your car.

Send a cheque or postal order type thingy?

Agree with the cigar lighter option - some chargers etc have clever electronics hidden inside those plugs - best left alone.

If you've got an optimate, They do a lead that plugs into the lead on the bike and has a socket on it. Enables you to just plug it into the bike as and when you need it and gives no more connections to the battery. and the 12v socket has a waterproof cover in case it gets wet. Costs about £8.
