Well i really want a bike that isnt crashed repaired. Got my bike (CBR125) good condition, some git pulled out on me and wrecked it. £1500 later in repairs... i still dont like riding it. Seems to always hang over me that im riding something that crashed :/ Mechanically sound, just in my head its still the bike that was on the floor trapped underneath the car lol :P

Dw, the CBR is the same so im used to everything going rusty etc. Little bit of TLC and should be fine

Im not really a huge fan of the curvy. I might pick one up if i get a good deal on one but really looking for a long term bike so i want to be happy with it.

I'm not usually an advocate for finance but have you considered it? That's how I got mine and honestly I'm glad I did it.

Like your mental block over owning a crash damaged bike, I have the same issue with owning a second hand bike. It's purely because I bought a second hand bike before and it was just an absolute disaster.

If you've got a budget of £2500, part exchange (you'll get more if you sell privately) your CBR and get yourself a brand spankers sv650s. You'll get ABS, some warranty and I think I had a year or two's brake down cover thrown in.

Then you can use a bit of that money to buy yourself some decent protective gear.

The biggest you issue you'll face is insurance on a new bike. You'll just have to take the risk with lower level insurance (TP/TPFT) and make sure it's safe and mostly that you don't crash.

That sounds good and all, but i have around £2000 cash, and whatever i get for my CBR from sales. That is for the bike and insurance.

Im going to uni in september so finance is really a no no. (yes thats right, im chosing a bike over saving for uni :P).
I have the money now, but wont do in the future.

I have no real issue with 2nd hand. Have a viewing, do a hpi check etc. If theres anything i have a worry about i'll just walk away and look for another one. Theres a few around me both private and shop bikes at around £2500 15k miles. Dont look bad either. Will have a look at them after my test.

Test being only 2 weeks away :/ Do not know bristol what-so-ever. The solo riding will be............. *awesome* :P

Good effort! I'm off to uni in September as well. Luckily enough I just finished paying for it and my insurance is down to about £16 a month.

What you studying and where you going?

Hopefully Automotive engineering at coventry, but I just got below the target they gave me on the conditional offer so they're still deciding. Otherwise its mechanical engineering at demontfort, leiceter.

I've managed to get a sponsorship for uni, that's why I'm not saving too much for it.

I'm doing motorcycle engineering at Swansea. Would you mind telling me how you go about getting sponsorship for it? It would be a massive help.

I was thinking about doing that course.
I got sponsorship from a local charity that funds poorer students. You need to Google stuff like that in your local area. Although I had to pass 4 interviews etc and meet the sponsor to get it. 8k a year isn't bad though :P

If you decide to get them new from Suzuki then you need to be prepared to take out a mortgage on them.
Which is why you should serilously consider NOT getting them.

In the event of an off its just more expense to fix.

Besides, the pointies look best with a bellypan

Similar to me. I got a 55 naked with 4,000 miles on it for £2400 and it had a MTC can on it. It had done about 400 miles since it's first MOT, assuming that to be genuine mileage as the bike was in very good nick.
