Emulator fitting is pretty easy. Yes you need to drill out the stock holes in the damping rods to make them in-effective and so pass the damping to the emulator, but no biggy. I went for linear springs because I thought progressives pointless with a pillion, the increased preload needed would use up all the 'soft' bit of the spring. No doubt there is a scientific explanation of why both would work, but my 'gut feel' was linear would handle a greater range of loads than progressives.

Found a pretty good step by step guide and its not as complicated as I thought. Might give Pete a PM

You WILL notice the difference. I'm 12.5 stone and in standard form the thou shocks spring rate is a little too high (I like it stiff though. *snigger*). It is easy to play with this though and a set-up by a suspension guru will have you despising the front end!!

Well Paul the 6th , I`m heftier than you by another margin again . The Thou shock works really well and I have had no issues with it whatsoever , in fact I haven`t even touched it or adjusted the settings on it since Flymo sent it to me . Even with a pillion I have enjoyed every moment of it with no issues regarding it being too Soft or Hard . Fit and forget as far as I am concerned ........ now for the front end

Well I`m not sure about my front , I`ve never had to complain about it and have a sneaking suspicion that it may have been tinkered with , I really need to compare it with a "known" standard SV at some point to see if it is different .

So is there an aftermarket shock which is worth swapping for that has similar ride height to stock and which doesn't require cutting the battery box? Maybe Hagon or Bitubo XZE-01? I don't mind paying a bit more but leave the battery box alone. I weigh 75Kg approx 12 stone. Any suggestions? Oh and I don't like a very rigid rear so if the gixxer fits?

Ohlins and Hagon do an aftermarket shock I believe. They are very expensive compared to the £25 zx10r shock I managed to get a hold of. Talking about 10x that amount. Gixxer shocks always need to have the battery box cut away due to the resiviour.

incorrect you can just move the under tray back which requires 2 holes drilled in tray and about half inch taken of the top of the tray

Either way the battery box still needs to be cut.
