This is a really interesting thread. Enjoying reading both sides of the debate. I don't really have many points to add, I don't actually have any, but it is nice to see peoples opinions on this one.

For a bike forum most of you guy's arnt very rebelious are you
No of course not, 'not rolling over' does not make you arrogant. Speeding is a good example of the exception that proves the rule. There are always individual circumstances, and collective responsibility. Accepting that you have put yourself before your responsilbity to others is being selfish and human, assuming that you have the right to do so is arrogant. There is a difference imo.
And why should you be rebellious if you ride a bike? The commonly held perception of bikers may well be 'rebellious', but in my experience that is not true, the same as with many other cross sections of society.
But don't assume that people are sheep just because they take a speeding ticket! Pick your battles!

Indeed it's a fine line. If your on it, make sure you know which way to jump. If your over it then take the judgement and move on. Hopefully by not doing it again...

Just a little humour bud, so most bikers nowadays are not so much born to be wild as born to be mild

Perhaps therein is his reason to lie, possibly embarrassment????

If he has spoken out about doing what he is doing & it didn't work out the way he hoped/wanted it to do, perhaps he has not wanted to lose face...??

I have seen this & can offer evidence of when people have not been let off, that action has been taken against them, yet the story they come out with is completely the opposite.

A colleague seized a m/cycle from a 15yr old yoof who had been riding it in a childrens play area (in & out the swings etc) while some parents were there with their young children. My colleague actually witnessed this as part of his patrols.

It was me who had issued the warning notice only 3 days previous for EXACTLY the same thing. (The park had a council CCTV camera & following several complaints by members of the public, as it was my beat area, I was asked to view the footage to see if I could identify anyone).

While my colleague was waiting to have the m/cycle recovered the lads dad appeared & went off it, threatening to sue the Police, my colleague had no right to do this etc.

I know people (family member & a friend) who worked at the same place as the dad, who told me that he was going off it at work saying how he was going to get the 2 cops (me & my mate) disciplined & how he was not going to pay to get his own property back etc.

Anyway, the day before the recovery agent was going to destroy the m/cycle he PAID to have it released, yet told his workmates that after speaking to "THE CHIEF OF POLICE" he had been authorised to recover his property free of charge & that his complaint had been upheld & the 2 cops involved had been round to his house to offer an apology.

Now, I can confirm, as can my mate, that at no time have I been made to or otherwise have I apologised to this man. My mate did check & it has been confirmed that he DID PAY to get his bike back.

Why this guy said one thing while the complete opposite happened I have no idea; all I can think of is that because he was so vociferous in his I WON'T be paying & I WILL get my stuff back free of charge & I WILL get the cops into trouble he maybe didn't want to lose face.

Maybe the man you know has no reason to lie, and has been lucky on the 10 times he has gone out to get a speeding ticket. If he is such a "lucky" guy then I must meet him and join his lottery syndicate immediately.............

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but then you dont know it doesnt work any more than i do because neither of us has tried it YET!
I get what your saying but he didnt boast about any of it and neither had he advertised the fact it popped up in conversation only after i had asked him if he had ever dealt with such a thing.
Anyway Que Sera sera i have faith and even if it doesnt work then it will be an interesting experiment for me.

as far as I know, most bikers were born a long time ago... Too old to remember what we're supposed to be rebelling against.... We're an ageing population sadly. We're an ageing demographic

Totally agree. 'one doesn't forget to play when one gets old, but rather gets old because one forgets to play' or something like that from oscar wilde. So true!
