Don't write of PC World mate, they can be quite competitive. Just don't go for all the 'extras' coz thats where the sting is. £40 for a check up and that kind of stuff.
I have a Packard Bell with a 17in screen which was 600 notes a year ago and I have had no trouble with it at all. One thing to consider, computers go out of date very quickly so try and get one as future proof as possible, or better still, lease one. That way it can be upgraded every couple of years. Its up to you really what you want to do, but these days £500 will buy you quite a lot of hardware, just don't buy from ebay, or some shonky website.... You should get a dualcore with at least a 1GB of ram, this is pretty much the minimum needed to run the very resource hungry Vista. Go and have a chat with them, you don't have to part with your cash and you might get some good advice..... And, no I don't work for them by the way..... ![]() HTH Gordon |

Will she be needing it for games? Images? Movies? Photoshop? Just the internet? Microsoft Office? Size Hard disk?
Personally, I'd go Dell "for my needs". I don't use MS Office as I can use google Documents & Spreadsheets for free & Star Office is a free download. For my needs I'm going for the Duo processor as I do loads of cpu intensive work i.e. .net querying a 2 gb sql db. Depends on her needs - basically a bit more info required! Oh & steer clear of cheap bargains.....they're cheap for a reason. |

think twice before getting a laptop. I've had 3 and always think that a PC tower would have been a better buy! Laptops have limited life...and at such a premium cost!
Lovely gesture though ![]() |
