Question Rattle at 5-6k under load?

Hi All
Just been out on my Sv for the first time in a month. The bike has sat unused during this time. I gave it a handful of throttle and noticed a pronounced rattle between 5-6k? It sounds like its coming from teh front of teh engine but can't be 100% sure?

First time I've ridden it without a race can on so I suppose it could have been there longer? Any ideas on what this could be?

If its he cam chain can you reset the tensioner? How much are new ones?

Many thanks

probably cam chain tensioners, is yours a pointy or a curvy? curvy ones can be reset and a popular mod is to fit the tensioners from a 2003 pointy model to the curvy as they auto adjust so to speak

At least I'm not alone with it then!

Mine is a curvy. Looks like I'd better research how to reset it. What a time to go I had someone coming to look at it too. Typical

Found the post below ad will try that this weekend. Is it as easy as it sounds? Anyone else done this? ANy reason why i shouldn't do this?

take the central bolt out, using a small electrical screwdriver (careful not to damage the thread for the bolt), incert it and you'll feel it engage with a slot (you can't see it), turn the screwdriver clockwise (as in doing up a screw), you have to hold tension on it as it retracts the plunger against the spring inside, once it won't turn anymore, "sharply" withdraw the screwdriver and the plunger will "flick out" to the right length.

and that's al that is required, it's worth doing this at service time anyway as it keeps them from seizing up.

Cheers Mark.

Haven't had the chance to do it yet.

Infact i'm feeling rather lazy, i'm seeing spannerman soon so he's gonna do me a service at the same time as other bits and bobs. Can't be bother wasting oil and time when it's just gonna be done again in a few weeks.

Will post what the bike feels and sounds like after that.
