Owenski's Rapid Renovation Project

As per my other recent thread I've purchased a former forum members (mousetrappers) SV650.


I met mousetrapper not through the forum but through chance as we've both had kids around the same time, our wives had befriended each other and pushed the two blokes to one side to chat about bikes... Small world syndrome kicks in and we both discover we're members on here.

James hadn't ridden his bike since the birth of his little girl other than to take it for an MOT. So I'd increasingly encouraged him to sell it, tried to get a friend unknown to the forum to buy it, then tried Roberrrrt but alas no takers so its sat unused for over 18months.

Fast forward a few months and me and James come to an agreement, shake hands and this last weekend I collected it. Aware its not moved more than a couple of miles in the last 2years. I thought it may be wise to do some minor stripping and cleaning, change of fluids and bearing swaps etc.

It was known before I bought it that the subframe had snapped due to an overloaded givi rack, I considered re-welding but the extent of the damage meant it would be easier to just buy a 2nd hand one.
So popped onto ebay and ordered one up...

Then I started on the strip down in order to make it ready for winter...

So badly wish I'd given it a full inspection and written a list of the booboo's as I went to form a strategy of what I could/should fix as opposed to removing a part, thinking "yeah I'll replace that, so bought one on the spot" fast forward 5mins and I'm doing the same again... and again... and again lol.

So you join me today my fellow organs as I begin a race against the elements, to get this SV ship shape before winter strikes.
I know how we all love a photo thread so I'm going to get some decent lighting installed in the garage and try to get as many pics as possible.

looking forward to it as this will probably be a list of things i should have done before i startig riding mine since it was stood up for 3 years without moving so very similar. I just changed the tyres, mot'd it and wacked sme lube on the chain

I'd like to think that would be the end of it but it doesn't scratch the surface.

Arrived home to find a couple of goodie boxes waiting for me as well so pics to follow on those although with so much still to come off the bike I suspect everything will remain boxed for ease of storage.
