also, www.metcheck.com is quite accurate for the weather too

However, it may have been restricted with a kit from FI International. This is a mechanical restriction involving inlet blades and a throttle stop. If your throttle only turns through say quarter of a turn, chances are it has been restricted using a kit from FI.
When I bought my bike (K4) the guy said it was restricted (I have the paperwork from FI International) but after I took it out for a spin I really didnt think it was restricted and I'm on a A2 license, so I needed it restricted. I bought a 33BHP ECU off ebay because thats the only method I thought there was to restrict a pointy. I didnt really notice that much of a change in the bike after I put it in, so I was a bit miffed. But now having read the above, I think my bike has been mechanically restricted. I can only turn my throttle a quarter turn. Even with the original ECU in, it doesn't get to the speeds many people say the SV can do. I can get it to 100 odd, but then it doesnt really want to go much faster.

Is my bike mechanically restricted? How can I remove the restriction when my restriction is over in a few weeks?

A quarter turn is the STANDARD throttle travel!

If it were any longer how would you use it?

If it only does 100 then it sounds restricted. Probably takes a while to get there too.

I'm not sure it is, as my girlfriend got a K5 SV that wasn't restricted and her throttle turns a hell of lot more than mine!

And yes, it does take a while to get to 100. Gets to 60/70 all fine and dandy, but then just doesnt want to go after 90 odd.

How would I know for sure that my bike is mechanically restricted? These inlet blades, what do they look like?

Like a pair of washers AFAIK

Just pull the airbox lid and see if the butterflys are fully open at full throttle. (engine off )

In my original response I said that the throttle will only turn about a quarter of a turn if it's restricted with an FI kit. The point I was trying to make is that it doesn't move much at all, certainly nowhere near as much as the throttle on my previous bike (a 125 Varadero) and nowhere near as much as the Ninja 250R of my other half.

The restrictor kit is, as yorkie_chris says, two washers and also a t-bar shaped piece. The washers sit under the throttle bodies.

Take a look at this thread here: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=78297

Scroll down and you will see a picture of the parts.

Apologies for the confusion over the 'quarter turn'.

John.

right - had the bike a few weeks - just found a quiet dual carriageway - - gets to 115 no probs - 125 fairly easy then i chickened out - pulls really well so am sure not restricted in any way.

Here's to the SV
