When I was there this was always talked about, how unfair it is to be earning less then average wage. But if everybody earnt a minimum of the average wage, the average wage would be higher, and get higher and higher perpetually.
Bring on the communists.

My take on it is that its about fair working conditions. Strange that there are no health and safety guidelines on what speed a posty should be walking at. This is one of the hot topics in our office, the managers want postys to be running round their shift but they won't commit to a "reasonable" pace.

Surely in this day and age of health and safety gone mad this would be set in stone.

Where did I put my furry hat?

I take it the guy saying that failed GCSE maths, hence his employment operating the complex device of a letterbox.

No wonder we get delivered next doors post if that is the level of numeracy in the postal service!

I have no idea what they are striking over but its doing my head in.

They should be grateful that they even have a job in this current economic climate. They should quit being so greedy and deal with it. If they dont like how much they are earning then they should get another job - not use the rest of us as their puppets to get their own way

Have you ever considered a job in Public Sector management?

That, I agree, is utter madness. Our postie scurries about but with the hills here in High Wycombe running is usually out of the question.

If I had to do the equivelant (typing numbers/formulas into spreasheets very fast) the end result would be a complete mess.

A good friend of mine used to be on deliveries for RM and he rode his Honda to get out to the outlying suburb that was his patch, a good three miles from the sorting office. His boss suggested he should use one of their bicycles instead as "it would be quicker". Wonder what colour the sky was on his planet?

None of this means I agree with the strike of course. Just because the life of a postie is sometimes crap does not mean it has to be made crap for everyone else!

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm here? Im sure there are better ways for royal mail staff to get their point across rather than striking and holding the rest of the country hostage (so to speak). The issue is between royal mail & its staff - not the rest of us. The world would descend into chaos if everyone adopted the same principle and striked.

If my team decided to throw a wobbly and refused to treat patients in order to get our point across then that would jepordise patient care and possibly lead to some deaths. I doubt anyone would be so understanding then.

i think hes referring to the fact that you said "I have no idea what they are striking over"

i just hope they hurry up and finish killing royal mail so an aternative company actually capable of doing the job fills the gap

Think it might be a bit more complicated than that. Royal Mail is a public limited company, and therefore the upper echelons of its management are in fact, the government. Which we all vote for. So the only way to get certain rules changed to allow RM to compete on a level playing field, is to bring it to the attention of the govt. The best way to do that is to get votes dependent on it. Hence the strike. I'm not in agreement with it, but if RM can't survive due to the special rules it works under, something needs to change at the top.
