One more thing to remember. Silver solder isn't great for gap filling, so make sure the parts are a good fit as well as clean.

I'd be very careful soldering to the side tank of any rad, they are made of very very thin alloy and don't need alot of heat to melt a hole

If the radiator is aluminium use aluminium solder NOT silver solder. Much lower melting point and less likely to damage the radiator.
If the new cowl has a fixing top and bottom and you are using the end cover fixings that are already on the rad why not just glue a cosmetic fixing to the middle of the cowl[not the rad] so that it looks like it has a centre fixing and then your radiator is still original. Alternatively by a cowl designed for the bike that uses the existing fixings,makes life a lot easier Last edited by Dicky Ticker; 06-07-10 at 06:41 AM. |
