No problem . What I did was start by getting most of the lacquer off with wire wool and then used some 400 sand paper, then some 600, then 800, then polished em up with some Autosol. Only took an hour or so.

I would love to have polished up my forks, but a previous owner had brush painted them silver, so it seemed easier just to wet flat them, and spray them and the wheels a dark metallic grey and be done with it.

Ill have a go during the week, just had the bike about 10 days and its in very good condition, the fork legs are the only thing that spoil the finish. Will post a photo when done.

Painting of all fairings now done. Just going to wait a week or so to wet n dry them then polish them up . Will post pictures of the repairs. I'm very happy with the finish for rattle cans. I've only sprayed isolated areas of the panels where they were damaged so not the entire fairings. Colour match is spot on just need to get them as shiney as the rest of the bike.

Also have some black stubby levers and a new screen on the way,

Look forward to seeing the results on this

I may be wrong, but Ive always been advised against wet flatting metallic paint as it can remove the metallic flakes, so therefore youd need to spray that area again. Its the clear that gets the polishing compound about a week after its hardened.

There seems to be 6 of one and half a dozen of the other where this is concerned, some say its ok, others dont, maybe one of the paint professionals on the site can confirm????

Yeah it's the clear that I'm now leaving a week or so before I flat it and polish it up.

There are lots of different opinions on this like you say but in my experience with rattle cans I've got the best finish from:

1. completing the base coat then leaving to dry for 24 hours
2. wet n drying base coat with 1000 grade paper.
3. Spraying 4 or 5 coats of clear and then leaving that to set for at least 4/5 days then flatting with 1500-2000 paper.

I've no experience with metallic paint tbh but I have heard not to flat the base coat like you mentioned.
