We have Baumatic all round. It's Italian, good looking, works really well, nothing to complain about. They have designer ranges, stainless, all the usual, plus a bit different from the norm.

I'm another one with Bosch appliances around the kitchen, but I'd also say Neff ovens are worth a look at.

Neff ovens rule. I have one with a pizza setting, a casserole/cheesecake setting, a baking setting, defrost, single and double grill and general fan oven.

My home made ciabatta dough pizza tonight was crisp but light, the cupcakes I baked in Friday were even and light, the venison casserole last week succulent and my sourdough toast crunchy.

The quick heat setting is great when you've worked late and want a hot oven fast.

I love it and I cook a lot! And it's what they use on GBBO too.

My oven is Neff. In the 5 years it has been in daily use. I have only had to replace the heating element (replacement cost me about 8 quid). Well built.

On advise from brother who supplies/ maintains washing machines and usually swears by Meile. We went for a direct drive LG which has a 10year motor guarantee. Probably the most reliable washing machine we have ever owned. We usually kill them in about 2 years (At least 2 daily load as Lynne still does the kids washing even though they have moved out). This has well exceeded the norm.

So from the above, it seems that AEG, Bosch, Neff and Siemens are all good reliable makes. Miele are beyond my budget at present but if funds allow after we complete major works Miele laundry goods may be bought. So I'll make a decision based on cost / functions from amongst them.

Anyone got any feedback about Lux-air or Caple cooker hoods? We want a fancy statement cooker hood as a focal point in the kitchen. something like this:-

Personally I'd only have LG laundry goods. An appliance engineer friend who's had his own shop for 20 years told me they are better than Samsung and he supplies dozens of Lg washers per year and has yet to have issue. I have a large 12kg one for my family of 6 that is literally going all day everyday for the last year and it's faultless

Actually I prefer the look of LG stuff and they may win on style alone. Good to know they last well, so they are contenders. Basically the laundry goods will hopefully last as long as us, so I'm looking at a minimum 20 year service life! I'm rather disappointed in my Bosch washer, it has never been that good and has developed a serious leak after 10 years of light use. I can probably fix it (I think its the door seal) but as we have a new house and soon to be completed new extension we are pushing the boat out...

Caple, Lux air 'ok'.
Go for one with best extraction rate with least noise.
How about a down draft extractor?

Comes out of the worktop. Right party piece. CDA is the company.
Elica also do some very unusual ' statement ' extractors.
