Ah oui I heard the Suzuki ones aren't too spanky, though i've heard mixed about the R&Gs too, so I don't know!
Was watching some video on youtube of guys cropping through quite a few supposed good chains, however they didn't managed to get through those Almax ones (III and IV I saw that they tried) you mentioned Wolfy, so I reckon i'll go with that. Now I need to convince my landlady she wants a land anchor smashing into the driveway... not sure if she'll go for it though as she is a bit... normal. |

the almax chains always seem to turn up as recommended buys, but any chain is better than none, and only as good as how often you use it. the videos of people cropping almax chains are from almax themselves iirc so take them with a pinch of salt, but they seem a good buy. remember that they are VERY heavy, big ones will need two hands to lift, so don't tell your insurer that it's ALWAYS locked up with it, cause they'll expect you to carry it around all the time... if your landlady won't let you install a ground anchor then get creative, lamposts, your car wheels. just remember once a ground anchor is in the ground, it doesn't come out easy, be sure that where you put it in is where you want it to stay...

Yeah I was thinking my car wheel, they're alloys so locking nut, so a little bit more effort!
I suppose it's a good idea to have that big mother chain for the home, and another somewhat lighter one to carry when I might be leaving it somewhere, I did look on almax site but didn't see a weight, I picked an Oxford one up t'other day and that was pretty heavy, only 12mm or so though I think. Along with a disc lock/u-lock or whatnot I should also be getting I believe. |

I've got a Pragmasis chain, 17mm thing. Not getting through that, its chained to another bike. Can't get both through a gate!
Mate has an anchor in the wall for his VFR, and a 19mm chain. Can't fault Pragmasis, quality service. |

i think mine's oxford, with a disc lock on the front too. chuck a decent cover on, and if you can't lock up in a garage then put it as far out of sight as you can - basically just do as much as you can to make any thief's job as awkward as possible
the good thing about an SV is that, whilst it's a damn good bike, it's probably not one that professional thieves will be following you home for, so your biggest problem is likely to be opportunists I find having an 18stone dog is handy too ![]() |

I haven't got an 18 stone dog
![]() Are there any problems getting an 16/19mm chain through the ... wherever on the bike you're supposed to put the chaint through? Also not too sure on length, it'll be up closed to whatever it attaches too obviously... DAS begins tomorrow hurrah! |

hmm dont know, i normally just put it through the wheel
my oxford (dont know width im afraid) will squeeze through rear subframe - i normally do this to keep it off the ground if there's nothing to chain it to when i'm out |

Most bikes now are so tightly designed that there's no room to get the chain through the frame, especially with the fully faired models. if you put it through the back wheel it should be ok, tbh if someone really wants your bike you won't stop them taking it, but a bike with a chain is much harder to steal than one without, and as someone mentioned earlier the SV is nowhere near as big a target as something like the latest year supersports. good point about getting a cover was mentioned earlier too, if it's going to live outside then you have to do everything to keep it protected from the weather...

Yep, cover is on the (ever lengthening!) list hehe.
Then probably a house with a garage, as likely as that is anywhere near London! :/ |

I'd get an almax chain.
That and whatever you do, don't wash your bike!
