what about photocopying the real one and keeping it under the seat, the putting the copy in the holder, that way if some no*ber nicks it you still have the original and it will be pretty hard to spot the copy on a bike.

Because it is illegal. You are committing fraud by copying it & representing something that it's not.

you may say the chances of getting caught are remote - but then the potential penalty is much larger.
Why not put the original on the bike, it's what? £7 to replace it? if it's properly secured wha are the chances of it being stolen?
Or take the holder off the bike completely, what are the chances of an officer looking for it?

If I were a copper, it'd be one of the first things I look for! Tax, tyres, general state of repair. You need to DISPLAY the tax disc if parked on the road, or you may get a tow.

i brought a bike back from Germany quite a few years ago and it sat for a few years in a garage at my in laws. My father in law and his mate decided to strip the bike and rebuild it after it sitting so long.

I needed to take it for an MOT prior to getting it taxed and registered. I had insurance (using chassis number) and had booked into a test centre. I checked with the police before I went as i was riding a bike with no MOT or tax or number plate.

I was very surprised that i didn't get stopped. But i didn't.
