Another interesting point is that after you have taken your retests you still have the points on your new license.
It will be interesting to see what an insurance company makes of it all
I assume your insurance premiums would be affected just like someone who kept their licence and has 6 points...

if your licence is revoked you need to reapply for a provisional, and you will start with 6 points....theory, part one and two are required to be retaken (not sure on CBT)

What happens if you lose your lose your licence under the Act
If you lose your licence under the New Drivers Act, you must first apply for a provisional licence. A provisional licence means you must drive with:
  • L plates
  • a driver to accompany you who is at least 21 and has held a full licence for at least three years
You must not drive on any public road in Great Britain without a licence. If you drive without a valid licence, or disobey the conditions of a provisional licence, you face a penalty of up to £1,000.
If you don’t have a valid licence, your insurance won’t be valid. You’ll need to tell your insurance company immediately if you lose your licence under the Act.

How to get your full driving licence back
If you want to get your full driving licence back you must:
  • pass the theory and practical driving tests again
  • exchange your provisional driving licence for a full one, after passing your driving test
In some cases, you may be ordered by the court to take a re-test as part of your penalty for the offence. If you pass this test, you get your licence back. You don’t need to pass two re-tests.
Last bit highlighted is interesting though...not sure the OP is past this point or not?

To answer a couple of queries, it's a revocation, not a disqualification, so after you pass your test you will still have the points and they are still valid for three years from the date of conviction. The two years starts from the date of your first full licence, not the date you did your CBT, so if you have a full car and bike licence it's the date you passed whichever first.

I know its not a ban and that i just need to retake my test, but a hassle all the same.

Would my two year 'restriction' start again from date of re-passing test or is that test just to get my first licence back?

This is such an annoying law.

+1.

It was brought in to try and make young drivers think twice about speeding/how they were driving.

Whether it has worked or not I don't know.

FWIW, I got 6 points within about 6 months of passing my bike test 5 years ago, however thanks to being an old git who had passed his car test 15 years before that, I didn't have to worry about that

Where this subsection applies, the fixed penalty clerk—
(a)may not return the licence and its counterpart under section 57(3) or (4) or 77(1) of the M3Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988; but
(b)must send them to the Secretary of State.
So i shouldn't of had mine back right?

Also if anyone can make sense of this it would be a help, i'm struggling.

Right my counterpart driving licence has all the codes of what i can drive and when i could drive them from.

Well my car one starts on the date i passed my car test being the 23/09/11
It also states i have catagory A ( of which is edium-sized motorcycles up to 25 kW (33 bhp) and a power to weight ratio of up to 0.16 kW/kg) From the 01/11/09

This is the date i did my CBT and so it must be the start of my 2 years.

This is the only reason i can find that has some proof behind why i wouldn't of lost it by now and had a letter from the DVLA. Also backed up by the fact i got my license sent back to me with all 6 points with no mention of a revoked licence.

Save yourself some grief and just call the DVLA if you are in any way unsure.
