Default Gear lever play

How much free play should there be on a clutch lever before resistance is felt pulling it?

Is half and inch to an inch "normal"?

Last edited by ooger; 05-03-08 at 08:31 AM. Reason: clutch, not gear. dur.

Its how you like it, people with small hands will have more freeplay, etc.

Aye, it's a matter of taste, I don't like much freeplay in the lever (every time I took it to a dealer, they'd "correct" it for me, and I'd almost crash in the car park) but some people like loads. Just try various, as long as it works it's fine IMO.

Hmm, I'm not sure I like is moving that much. It wobbles up/down too which annoys me more than anything else.

I'm guessing the adjustment is fairly straightforward. I'll have a look in't Haynes manual.

would having too much free play not mean that the clutch doesn't fully disengage when you pull the lever though? tbh the biting point on the SV is toward the end of the lever travel so it probably makes no odds, on the DRZ the biting point is only 25mm or so from the grip

I occasionally have trouble getting it into neutral from 1st when I've stopped, but its remedied by letting the clutch lever out a few mm or so and sometimes crawling forward a few centimetres.

Again - normal?

mine does that occasionally, but some light footwork usually finds neutral, my lever has never been slack, but sometimes it won't engage 1st without letting the clutch out to spin the box, i think it's just when the gearbox components line up in a certain way sometimes that stops it from going in*

*insert kinky response here
