Good afternoon,
I was hoping someone could give me some advice on changing a clutch lever. I dropped my bike about a month ago and snapped the clutch lever and just need it replaced. I have a new clutch lever with a clutch cable attached. Is it supposed to be changed as one whole unit or can I just change the lever part and use the current clutch cable? ![]() Also does anyone know the process of doing this? I'm hoping it's really straight forward but as a Noob I don't want to pull something off that I can't re-attach. I'm will do it myself over the weekend but thought I should ask for tips before I potentially butcher my clutch. Anyhow thanks in advance for anyone here who can help me. |

The lever alone can be changed.
1. Slacken the cable adjuster fully. 2. Remove the two cross-head screws under the lever bracket and remove the clutch switch, (this step is not absolutely necessary, but if you're unsure of how the clutch switch engages in the lever it's easier that way). 3. Remove the nut under the clutch lever pivot, remove the pivot screw. 4. Pivot the clutch lever forward on the cable, align the slot in the lever with the cable and remove the nipple from the lever. Do that in reverse with the new one, some grease around the pivot bolt and cable nipple would be a good idea. Make sure that the pin of the clutch switch engages with the recess in the lever.

I probably will be back eventually.. But Haynes will be on order soon so I'll be doing 1-3 spanners myself... 4 spanners for when im feeling a bit more daring. 5 spanners for when im drunk and think im a mechanical genius... then you may see another post asking how I put the gearbox back together.
Anyway thanks again... think i'll keep the switch as it is... let's hope I keep the bike shiny side up. |
