I got the bike packed and ready to go last night. I got all of 5 miles until the bike lost all electrical power. It had blown the main fuse (the 30amp one in the green box). So out came the tools and in went a new fuse (always carry spares). Got 100 yards down the road and it did it again (only seemed to do it at high revs). So in went another fuse and i decided to head home gently (not going above 4500 revs). Died again. So I gave up and phoned the AA to recover me and the bike home.
The AA guy (actually from a company called Motor Move) was a biker and we eventually decided (after testing everything we could think of) that it must be a wire chafing on the frame somewhere (it blew one fuse when the ignition was switched off and the key was in my pocket). So my job for today is to take all the plastic off and find out what's causing it. Maybe next year. |

Ah man, talk about crap timing eh? Gutted to hear that mate but i guess its a little better that it happened near home rather than on the AR route itself.
Good luck finding the sore spot on the wiring tho.

Doh, sorry to hear that dude!
There are a few common spots that have problems on curvey looms, I can't remember them all but one of the main culprits apparently was where the front seat bolts go in, can't remember which side though. The loom runs behind this bolt, gets rubbed up by the end of the bolt and then shorts, take a look on both sides and check which side has the loom running through, check to make sure there isn't any damage on the loom. Hope it gets fixed soon! I am sure when the main technical support guys are back they will be able to help further. |

I think it could be. The cause of the problem on the Island was the rectifier (it wasn't charging the battery). I got one off a CBR600 (on the recommendation of the forum) and that seemed to cure it, but I'm now suspecting that as I had the bike in bits on Saturday and couldn't find any bare wires in the loom.
