Aha! That now makes sense (esp. after getting head around constant mesh), but to put it another way, you are letting the clutch out too fast so putting yourself in unnecessary danger if you make a mistake. I'll stick to letting clutch out slower and letting that match shaft speeds up.

Nothing wrong with letting the clutch out.

That's what I did at first, obviously that's what you do when you start out. Then I learnt to blip. But as I started to ride faster (on track especially) I went back to letting the clutch out.

It's all about what works best for you, y'see. That said don't be afraid to try new things - blipping ain't that hard.

NOTE. Nothing outside of 1000cc Sports bikes do over about 75MPH in first. And no your speedo is not telling the truth if it says other wise... A modern 600 is geared for 65-70MPH depending on model at the limiter. So physically cannot go any faster.

Done it for my bike, bearing in mind it only goes to 14000 RPM and the bike actualy revs to 16500, it stil showing 75MPH in first so add the extra 2500 and 80+ is poss

So do you dump the clutch when you pull away then?

If I'm changing down from 5th to 4th I roll off the power as I let in the clutch, shift down, and let out clutch as I roll the power back on. No back wheel lockup, no jerkiness, no bike wanting to get away from me.

The explanation Leather patches gave is good. It explains things well enough.

Even letting the clutch out slowly is not as good as a decent blip. It's all fine if you're never going to change down with any enthusiasm, if the revs are low the engine doesn't have as many revs to make up when you reengage the clutch. If all you do is bimble along and change down once you've already finished braking then you can forget about it, it won't make any difference to you really.

To illustrate the importance if you change down to higher rpm though, ride along in 2nd and maintain 8k rpm. Pull the clutch in. Let the revs drop and then let the clutch out again, however fast you like/dare (be careful). Lurch as the revs are forced back up by the rear wheel.
Then do it again and maintain 8krpm with the throttle whilst the clutch is in, you can let the clutch out much quicker and it will be smooth as silk. That is the point.
