Default Caliper work.

Been reading through a few threads recently and after Saturdays palava of trying to get the L/H caliper sorted (the bladdy pin got stuck!).

One of the pistons on the R/H side was not moving out when pressing the brake lever unless I held the other in place.

Is it a good idea to pop the pistons out, clean everything up and put it all back in place? 'Do I really have to put new seals in Sirrrr?'. I got in a kerfuffle and stupidly forgot to pop the pistons out on the L/H caliper before I drained the fluid, so will have to get some compressed air on that badboy.

Usually one will move easier than the other. It depends how easily they go back in!

Why not just put the system back together to pop other pistons out? I only normally work on one caliper at once.

The manual talks b0llocks. Brake fluid left in the open turns into some wierd salt type stuff, this stuff behind the seals siezes calipers up incredibly quickly.

Presuming you've got it totally apart, clean them with brake cleaner and scotchbrite, clean the seal recesses out, make sure caliper is totally cleared of any crap. Wipe some red rubber grease into the recesses, replace seals. Press seals down into groove to force out excess.

Wipe a little onto the pistons. Replace pistons.

P.s when I say "replace seals" in the above post, I mean put them back in the caliper.

Only replace them after inspecting them, most of the time you can reuse old ones!
