uhoh! you making your video debut liam? lol
Bikes looking mint mate, really liking the posts about which products your using too. Would that black engine paint cover colour or does it just boost the already black engines? just wondering, most of my engine is silver alloy similar to the frame but I have wondered about painting it all black having seen your pictures. |

todays progress!!!
the aim for today was to hopefully get her running again as starting to get withdrawal symptoms now with her being in pieces. i started off by cleaning up the carburettors and refitting them. ![]() ![]() ![]() then reconnecting all the cables and hoses, and the radiator, horn and cooling system. I've taken the sv stainless steel radiator cover off for polishing as that can be refitted later on and also gave my horn a good polish ![]() then next job was going to be fitting the handlebars but i had to polish up the handlebar mounts first before refitting them so yet again, more polishing!!! ![]() ![]() then began to refit the handlebars and all the switches etc. that go with it and had a bit of an accident when trying to refit the clutch lever!!! as i was tightening the mounting bolt it decided to be really inconvenient and snap on me ![]() ![]() ![]() so with everything reconnected thought the next step i should take is checking the battery had enough juice in it to turn her over and shock horror, it's as flat as a fart so i had to put it on charge(delaying my plans even more) ![]() oh and excuse the mutt in the background, typical dog is always in the way. ![]() so left it while we had tea and sorted kids homework out etc. the usual crap for a sunday evening and afternoon and then went back out and fitted the fuel tank on just for now so we could try and turn her over. you'll have to excuse the blueness of the paint for now as obviously everyone is aware that it will be changing. ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by liamsimpson; 13-09-09 at 08:03 PM. my number 1 tip, do not buy cheap ass brushes as you just end up taking the paint back off to get rid of all the bristles and lines left by them. so spend a bit more and get a decent one and if you need to keep it over night you can just clean it with white spirit and then leave it to soak in it until you need it again. |

Hey, the levers polish nicely too whilst you're at it.
I went through your thread again to see how you're polishing and am particularly interested how you attacked the front of the frame, where it's all a rough crackled finish. Did you have to file it down using those small bits that fit to a driller or used 80 grit compound? Does this 80 grit compound come in a form of a soap bar? I'm guessing you'd need to go over the work twice more in different grits to eliminate the scratches and then finally autosol it. When I did some polishing by hand I'd file it down with a small fine file to remove the cast marks and imperfections then sandpaper with wet and dry consecutively in finer grades and then autosol. My method takes ages, My friend and I did 52 hours between us on forks alone. Your method seems more professional using mops. Last edited by zunkus; 14-09-09 at 02:57 PM. |
