Blimey!! I remember all this and more...

Spangles, Texan bars and Hickory House. Begging to stay up late on saturday night to watch Match of the Day but not being allowed, then having to watch The Match on ITV on Sunday after lunch. Then it was teatime, followed by bath night and settle down in front of the telly (B+W, colour was for rich people!!) to watch Planet of the Apes, Hart to Hart or Return of the Saint.

Happy days, happy times...

dear god i vaguely remember some of these things and i'm not as old as you lot.
I remember putting all the green shield stamps in the book after we came home with the shopping.

Smoking on the top deck of buses, i remember as a kid in the winter i'd rather sit up stairs, not for the passive smoking, only cos it felt a little warmer.

I remember our first TV , you selected channels with a rotary Dial which made a clunk sound like Frankensteins Monster coming down the wooden stairs , if the station was slightly off then there was another dial around the outside of that to fine tune it . It also had a sideways closing roller-shutter door to cover the screen when not in use ........ and the biggest shame of all , it had a meter on the back that you dropped 50p pieces into and turned a dial to restore power to the set . I seem to remember it being a "Baird" TV .

It broke one day and the repair guy came around to fix it , he left the back open and I came along (aged about 5) and looked inside and decided to "Help" him repair it by ragging a screwdriver around inside the circuit boards . he came back and tried some tweaks here and there and then said "I`ll have to send it back and organise a replacement for you , I can`t figure out what is wrong with it" . He drags this thing out to the van and drives off , an hour later he is back with another TV and leaves . Dad pulled the roller-shutter door to one side and then pointed at something underneath where the dial should be ........................... it had BUTTONS , oh my God (apparently) and some significant logo that had mum and dad almost wetting themselves on the spot . I stared at the 3 little squares that were coloured Red/Green/Blue and thought "Big Deal , so it has a little picture on it ?" . They pressed the button and "Crossroads" came on ............... IN COLOUR ....... I never forget them holding each others hands , spinning around in circles and jumping up and down at the same time doing lots of "Wooohooo" and "Yipeee" type noises . I just plonked myself in front of it and continued to do the same thing I have done for the last 34 years ... watch TV in colour .

I also remember Vim Scouring Powder , Milk having a cream line at the top of the bottle , women with curlers in their hair chatting on doorsteps , the Rain Lamp (nasty statue of a woman with strands around her that had oil running down them like rain) , hairdryers that had hoses on them that ended with a bag you put on your head , My battery powered Snoopy toothbrush and worst of all , most stuff seemed to be made from Orange Plastic .

The only NEVER NEVER of this is watching Mamma Mia .... bloody terrible film ..... saw it on a plane this year ..... made the journey feel LONGER watching that rubbish ....

The film after that was WALL-E ....... its the last time I fly economy !!

I will NEVER watch "Mama Mia" on principle alone , I got SO sick of seeing adverts , and seeing them clutching oscars , and DVD`s on display and and and , stuff . I just shudder when I hear that name . Same goes for Slumdog Millionaire , I have no desire to watch it after getting it crammed down my neck , out of my bottom , scooped back up again , and crammed down for a second time .

Coop divi number that we used when we were sent down the coop to buy
- Milk Tokens
- 10 Park drive for Dad
- 10 No 6 for mum

Then pop into "Home and Colonial" for quarter pound of Quick Brew.
The Quick Brew went in a red plastic dispencer that was screwed to the wall above the copper. TV was abut 12 inch square screen in a massive Walnut cabinet.
When that new fangled BBC2 came along the old tele was replaced with one where you had operate a great clunky button to go from 405 to 625 lines.

Oh yes the sofa was a monster in green leatherett that folded out into a double bed and was a comfortable as sitting on nails.
