Nah he was worried that he hadn't done it up, lets put it this way I'll be going back for break lines and chain etc if I need them, he doesn't do servicing or engine work though, just the stuff on the wheels outside I think.

PM'd you about the tank

It was fine but he phoned me up to check. That's service.
Yeah Steve's a top fella. He's helped me out a couple of times with punctures in the last six months. Most recently he sorted me out with a new front tyre at about 6 o'clock on Sunday night so I was able to get to work the next morning. I think you'd struggle to find another place that would do that.

Yeah, you never know, but I'd rather go on recommendation than chance.

Last garage I used for the bike, was tyres and mot, dude tried to charge me £80 extra for a service he hadn't done!

Have heard some horror stories with garages and chains, which is one reason I'd like to do it myself, but will see what this chap quotes me.

I'd be interested what you get quoted boot, also do me a fav and ask another garage for a quote to buy and fit the same chain. Lets just say I paid £204 ride in ride out fitting on Mitch PR2's, that was 50 quid less than anywhere else round here.

Just a little update on this.

I rode over to Steve's this morning and he fitted new chain and sprockets £120 all in. That was for an EK O-Ring chain and sprockets that I can't remember the name of the brand.

Went with his advice on brands, he says in all the years he's been riding bikes and working on them, it's only DID ones he's seen break, and has seen an issue with EK chains.

In terms of service, he's second to none - friendly, informative, very thorough and very knowledgeable.

Thanks for the recommendation 5hort5, (and the +1 sinbad), I'm very pleased with the outcome.

I didn't get another quote, but I'll make some time to follow up next week, out of interest.

Anyone used DK for work in Newcastle? They have a DID Xring c&s kit for £70 on the website and the shop always has a sign on the door for £30 fitting.

DK have quite a bad name I think *, I've bought one of their c&s kits before though via their ebay shop - fitted it myself.

* double check with someone though that's just hearsay (think their ebay name's dkspares or something)

Spannerman equivalent Macc/Buxton area?

Oh the irony.

That is where Spannerman moved from to make his fortune down Sarf.
