Im going to guess this is aimed at me so I shall return comment.

First of all lets gets your facts straight before you start climbing on your high horse. I said I was doing high 60s low 70s, the speed quoted to me by the police was 66 as a maximum so I was actually doing less than that, I was NOT doing 80+ please do NOT imply that I was. The solid whites that I overtook on, I crossed back onto my side of the road after about a metre of them beginning, the road was clear and the overtake was safe. Granted, my actions in that case were wrong and I got the book thrown at me for it. I was NOT, I repeat NOT thinking of racing a focus ST. I would NEVER race another vehicle on the road, I rode the kind of pace that I usually ride to, my riding was not affected in anyway by the presence of another car. Phil said the Focus ST looked as if he was trying to play, not the other way around.

I accept that people are going to comment on my ticket, this is a forum after all but at least have the decency to keep your comments somewhere in the realm of what has actually been said and do not over-inflate quotes to make your point sound better.

I would be interested to see a 'safe' overtake that involves you coming bck into the nearside over solid white lines...

Welll they wouldn't try and stop people speeding past schools and hospitals would they. ******s!

Local plod around here, there are 7 or more schools within a mile, instead you see the panda car sat on the (30 limit) road which is wide open and used to be perfectly safe at 50. At 3pm.

Better to stick to the back streets and be as much of a c*** as you want (past the kids playing), because they don't bother there.

Plenty to be done around here since they let the dribbling spastics loose with the paint.

One up on tops, you can literally see the road for a mile and a half! Treat them as advisory TBH.

I must admit when we've been up Scotland they seem to have let someone with a higher IQ than the NSL decide where to paint the lines. Seemed pretty sensible TBH, double whites where you wouldn't want to overtake anyway.

I think it's a bit out of order to make any judgement on somebody's speed when you know nothing of the circumstances, the road, conditions, traffic, etc.
This is the road we are talking about http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&...=12,187.8,,0,5. It has been a 60 limit since limits were introduced in the 70's quite happily, now it's a 50.

Are you honestly telling me you have NEVER done 80+mph on a road like this?

Plenty of cars do 80 down there, plenty bikes much more, we are not talking about a reckless idiot on a bike doing three figure speeds here, Specialone gave the throttle a wee twist on a 1050cc bike at the wrong time at and he got caught. That's life!

Dave performed a safe overtake manoeuvre and happened to clip a set of white lines that are designed to guide cars and completely irrelevant for the capability of bikes anyway at the end of a manoeuvre. That's life too!

Both riders committed minor offences and had the book thrown at them, the copper throwing the book missed in Specialone's case, but the intention was there.

Dunno. I can see his point. I don't go near squires when it's busy because the plod love it because of all the power ranger idiots going hedge surfing on regular basis.

How about this 0.2 mile stretch of road of the top of my head? Prohibited to overtake for the entire stretch if travelling Southbound from waypoints A to B, half single half double white lines.

Also another Warwickshire road that has gone from a 60 limit down to a 40 recently, even though the accident stats for the road, show more more accidents involved cars doing 40 and 50, than cars doing 60 or above.

Don't tell me you think councils only paint solid white lines in places where they are absolutely necessary?

The point about behaving yourself near a bike meet is a valid one, but these guys weren't exactly "misbehaving", they were just riding their bikes. It just means that when we go to the Waterman we need to be 100% pedantic about sticking to the law, contravention of signs and road markings, speed limits, the lot, (stuff that would be ignored if it wasn't a bike meet!) and make sure they have no valid excuse to stop us. You'd think that would be what the police want to achieve, but you can bet your a$re that if there is nobody there breaking the law the police will stop going. Not writing any tickets would be seen as a failed evening and a waste of resources, whereas police presence meaning everybody behaves and they have nothing to do, should be seen as the ultimate success!

Also you can't compare the Waterman to Squires or any other bike meet, it's unique in my experience of bike meets. I've never witnessed any bad riding in the vicinity on a Tuesday night, though you do hear exhausts going daft on surrounding roads sometimes when you are sitting eating your burger, but you can hear that anywhere on any summer Sunday afternoon. It's not like Bassets Pole where people line up along the dual carriageway to watch the 100mph wheelies! Quite a few the bikes there would struggle to get over 50mph, and the average age of the clientèle is probably over 45. It's mainly enthusiast bike restorers that go there and there are a lot of old classic bikes. Japanese sports bikes are definitely in the minority.
