Default Any ideas how to quieten an exhaust whilst working on the bike?

My garage isn't at my house but rather in between rear gardens on an ex councile estate.

I annoyed a resident once because apparently I was running my bike constantly over several days. It was actually just once for about 15 minutes whilst I balanced the throttle bodies (maybe the 2 stroke generator did it!). The old bag threatened to do me in!

I need to flush my cooling system and want to keep the noise down. Apart from fitting the baffle to the exhaust and moving the bike away from the garden and pointing the exhaust away is there anything else I can do to hush it up a little more?

Thanks.

Do you still have the standard can? With the baffle in on a road legal exhaust it's probably quieter than a petrol lawnmower anyway, so anyone that complains tell them to hop it.

How about a coke/redbull can over the end of the exhaust with holes punched in the side monkey boy, or will that not fit the Scorpion jobbie? Don't know what damage it may cause though (overheating/exhaust gas flow etc)

Still, with the baffle in I assume it's at road legal noise levels, which means it should be no problem to run it for 1/2 hour during the day.

People get stupid about motorbike noise, they'll accept somebody running a lawnmower for 1/2 hour to cut the grass, but not a motorbike to balance carbs

If the neighbour turns up try to reason with them sympathically and assure them you'll be finished as soon as you can, if that fails and the police turn up explain this, and what you are doing and why it has to be done, and that the neighbour is being psychotic.

Somebody by me has a petrol chainsaw or hedge trimmer which is way noiser than any bike i have or have owned and they normally dont start using it until 8.30pm at least
As long as you do at a reasonable time in the the day, i cant see how anyone can complain.
We have people having roofs replaced on my road all the time so the roofers use a petrol cutter which makes a massive racket, but its essential so you just accept it, if it was at 8 at night id get annoyed.

+1
Previous house I ended up putting a a large cardboard box near the end of the can with newspaper packed in the sides of it leaving a tunnel for the fumes to expel. Did the job and the neighbour was happy.

Take it off. The exhaust won't make any noise at all then.

I have a two stroke petrol hedge cutter which is definately louder than the bike with no baffles, and I wear earplugs when using it, last time I cut back all the hedges and shrubs, it took me 1 1/2 days of almost non-stop use on a Saturday and Sunday, nobody complained (probably 'cos I was tidying up the eyesore that was my shrubs and hedges, snobby neighbourhood you see). I'm sure if I'd revved the bike for a day and a half somebody would have complained.
