I bank with Santander and since they swapped to that two page log in bit it's been rubbish!!
I find I have to refresh if it doesn't load within about 10 secs. Once I hit refresh it loads as normal.

Its not internet speed related either. Home is on 50Mb Virgin, work is 20Mb Lease Line. Other locations vary from ADSL to SDSL to Aggregated Circuits. Laptop is a Dell XPS M1330 with 128GB SSD. Home PC is custom built as is my work PC. i5 CPU's, 6GB+ RAM, blah blah... Not machine spec. The only common thing between almost all of it is the OS which is Win 7 Pro x64. Doubt its that. Quote:
Yeah, the 2 step thing is when this started happening. |

Natwest got sold?
Well, Natwest works first time everytime for me. As does Tesco's. So my original point stands. Their IB is poop ![]() As a bank...not sure, havent used them long enough to tell. Actually I have had 1 bad experience with them. 2 days before Xmas I get a letter through the door saying they are suspending any transactions in and out of my account until I have sent in some proof of ID. Bearing in mind I had the account opened online and had been using it for ~2 weeks already. Letter said it would take something like 5-10 days to process. Called them up ranting and raving, panicking they were going to shut me out over Xmas, and the woman on the phone was about as helpful as a chocolate teapot. I asked her (quite reasonably) to just postpone this til after Xmas. Had to trudge up the bank in the cold with a massive chest infection, with my 2 kids, and sit around in the bank for 40 mins while they made the calls and copies needed of my ID. |

Wife uses Santander, as a result I never would. Shifting money about seems very difficult as they do not seem to have a proper sort code and account number I can use to put money to her account etc. even she calls it a mickey mouse bank. It might be historical from the abbey days. I need to move my savings out of my Alliance Leicester account now they have gone all Santander on me.

All seems standard procedure to me wrt sort code and account number, so not sure on what you have.
The actual IB when it does work is not bad, no better or worse than Natwest imo, just different. |

They gave us a sort code and account number which seemed to be generic for Santander and to use her account number as the reference for the transaction. It did work but some found they could not use it, as their payment system assumed the money was to go into the "generic" account and they used their own transaction references.

Abbey used a 9 digit account no and for other banks you knock off the first digit, i have just closed my abbey account and gone to lloyds, so i can switch money about easier, however abbey online is easier than lloyds.

A&L and Santander online banking both work fine for me.
The sort code thing is a pain in the **** if you only have your card and don't know what you looking for.

I had a long drawn out issue with Santander and a cash ISA. Only after doing a google search on "Santander problems" did it all make sense. Try it, you might be shocked at some of the stories.
In fairness many of the problems seemed to coincide with the adoption of the common Santander name last year to the other brands (Abbey/A&L etc), but there's no excuse, they knew what was coming. It seems hit and miss as to what the individual branch manager is like. I got zilch help from one branch, useless is being generous, but at another branch they couldn't have been hore helpful and the issue was sorted.
