I always take my lid off if going inside to pay, but never at the pump.

Have seen stores with signs lately saying helmets must be removed before entering but never been asked to remove my lid at the pump.
If drive off's are a problem they should simply make everyone pay first then pump.
To have to remove your lid while paying at the pump is stupid and pointless. I wouldn't take mine off.

That was my point with the young lad wearing the cap & shades

It was proven by the French (of all people) that the Burka isn't worn for religeous reasons

Well, if you can't see this is exactly the same thing ( they both obscure your face so the CCTV can't be used to identify you if required) then there's probably no point in carrying on with this discussion tbh.

I like squirrel hunters idea and I'm gonna do that next time

Oh dear, hope this was the Crewe morrisons, I always use the Nantwich one.
Tarpoley station asked me to remove mine next time I fill up so ive never been back there. I like pay at pump and can't see their issue with helmets on it as it won't let you take field until it has a proven method of payment anyway!

I agree it's annoying and I avoid petrol stations that I know insist on it. However, there are a couple of things I can see.
I know it's an identification issue, but included within that is that keeping a helmet on means you can also ride off quickly if that what you chose to do. In other words, asking people to take their helmets off might make a ride off more difficult.

It's usually not the poorly paid cashiers fault they have to ask you; it's normally company policy, so it doesn't seem fair to me to get at them.

It only really takes a moment so I don't see the need to get so up in arms about it.

Oh yes, about petrol splashing in your face. It happened to me once, when I had my lid on. It was the most awful and frightening experience! And made 10 times worse by the fact it was inside my hemet and in my sheer panic and blindness I couldn't get the damn thing off!

Oh and another thing - I always fill my bike up whilst sitting on it. I slipped once when standing beside the bike and the floor was wet and nearly had petrol pouring out all over the floor.

Actually thought of something else, if we remove our lids etc everytime isn't that gonna make the whole process longer which in turn makes people behind you wait longer and get impatient while we put everything back on.

Spot on. Why does everyone get so angry, IMHO it doesnt take that long to remove a lid and then put it back on. Its no different to visiting someones house and them asking you to remove your shoes. One of those things we have to do on occasions, no biggy and can clearly see why considering the amount of drive offs that must occur at some garages.
