Which is why we tend to not sing them anymore.

Although we might add verse six back in with a name change if scottish independence goes ahead, I'm not sure Marshal Wade will be up to the task these days.
It was changed to "knavish tricks" as that was seen as more appropriate than the original "Popish tricks". The rebellious Scots bit is also more anti-Catholic than it is anti-Scot.

But, as you say, there's a reason why we don't sing those verses anymore. It's probably only a matter of time before BA use them in an advert.

For a laugh we could all write letters of complain to BA and the ASA

Its just an ad. Its not a factual documentary. Take a breath and focus your energies on something that really matters.

So very true. Can someone tell the great British public that the Olympics don't matter?

It's not just an ad, it's a poorly thought out and executed ad that misses its target by a mile. It annoys me that a team of "experts" took a fee for it and probably still think it's great.

It's another symptom of the mediocrity I see every day. It's a sure sign of yet another group of self-congratulatory, back-slapping incompetents.

And the cause of all this is precisely because people don't care and think it doesn't matter.

Anyway, if I wasn't shouting at the TV I'd be punching people in the throat.

The ad has succeeded. We're talking about it on here, and we know what the ad is all about. An ultra smooth ad that isn't thought provoking actually fails.

Yes, but I won't fly Sh*ttish Airways or go to the Olympics, so it hasn't succeeded in getting my business.

We are talking about it but only because it's a gaffe.

And by talking about it, what we've discovered is some people find it mildly annoying and most people don't care. That's not a benchmark for success is it? The aim of marketing is surely not to get people talking about how crap you are.
