Andy them operating on it, might be better all round if they decide to go for it. If they plate it you'll be able to start using it again much faster I would suspect. As the plate holds it all together and gives it strength. This was certainly the case when I bust my wrist last year.

It's my left shoulder that's broke & I'm right-handed!

Fizz, I was thinking about that yesterday and I'm inclined to agree, i'd rather they decided to operate. TBH the uncertainty of the consultant yesterday is what's got me worried - his first reaction was that it would need an operation but he changed his mind after speaking to a colleague.

Ask for a second opinion when you go back if you are not happy with the way it's decided again. People tend to think it's rude or offensive to do that, but it happens all the time and doctors and consultants are well used to it.

Tonight I went back to my parents place for dinner and to pick up the SV after moving in to the house in Warrington.

On my way back after dinner etc, about 5 mins from my new home (on Winwick Road just by Halliwell Jones for those that know it) I moved into the right-hand filter lane, only what I didn't realise is there are 2 r.h. filter lanes in quick succession, and i had just moved into the first! I didn't see the piece of kerbing sticking out into my lane until I was right on top of it at 30-40mph, so i hit it & 'caught some air'. Seriously, this kerbing was invisible in the dark, no markings or bollard or anything...

I almost landed it!

Unfortunately as I landed I went down on the l.h. side and slid down the road.

I have literally just got back from A&E where they confirmed my worst fears of a broken collarbone. Now I'm just waiting for the nice drugs they gave me to kick in so I can get some sleep.

Got to say thanks to my new housemate Chris (Neeja) for going to pick up the bike for me. I haven't seen the damage yet but it was rideable so Chris has managed to get it home and put it away in the garage for me. I'll take a look tomorrow and may be on the scrounge for bits soon!

My shoulder has to stay immobilised for at least 6-8 weeks according to the Doc, so no riding for me for a while, or playing guitar

oh hun glad to hear you're not too bad ish xx if u need a massage i'll be in warrington end of april !!!!! xx what a lovely place it is too

Careful BBC, with offers like that, Warrington might suddenly become a hotspot for bike "accidents"

I'll be looking after Saxo till then due to his inability to do any household chores or unpack...it's going to leave my shoulders and back tense. Can I get a massage too?

Who needs an operation with offers like that?

We're having a night out in Warrington soon, so consider yourself invited when we eventually sort out the where & when!

I had similar happen to me.

Went to the fracture clinic, xrays, sent away in a cast
Went back next week, xrays different consultant. he looked at it and decided it was set in a bad position and warned me I might need an operation but he didnt think so.
Went back week after, 3rd consultant, more xrays, he looked at the xrays and said "you need that operated on"

I went in the very next day...
