Correct!
That gets you off your charge of riding a vehicle without MOT
But will not get you off a charge of riding with bald tyres/defective brakes or whatever else it failed on

Not the end of the world as I have two cars and two bikes. I did delay a trip to Scotland by a couple of days however because I wanted to take that car.

The only problem I had with taxing the bike online was that the tax was due at the end of the month that my MOT occurred, it hadn't got onto the DVLA system in time for it to show that I had a valid MOT.

So, if your tax and MOT fall in the same month, be aware that it can take a couple of weeks for the MOT certificate to get onto the system
