At this rate, the AR ride itself will be a trip to the petrol station in Settle and back, because none of us will be able to afford to fuel up for much further!
As I said about 148 in Ulapool, businesses up there are finding it far cheaper to transport their goods by air, rather than train or road....so much for green miles eh
Wasn't trying to be rude, I agree with you. The whole country is fooked. Think: they've sent loads of jobs overseas, and housing prices are through the roof so people who might work in a city doing stuff like driving buses or collecting garbage can't afford to live in that city, and have to live miles away. Of course, if you're a bus driver, you can't catch a bus to get to the depot in the morning, you have to drive. Yet now fuel prices are going sky-high to make THAT too expensive as well!

No, I know you weren't

Interesting point about cities, according to something I was reading this morning there are five cities that are best to live near due to the amount of jobs increasing there, one of which I live not too far from

Quote:

Leeds
The UK manufacturing sector is expected to continue to grow as overseas demand for British-made goods increases, according to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI). Being the UK's second largest production centre outside London, Leeds will benefit from this increase. At the same time, Leeds is not merely dependent on one sector, also being a leading centre for financial and business services. According to the Cities Outlook, Leeds is the major city with the second highest employment rate (70.4 percent).
Well manufacturing has been in decline in this country for years, its practically non existant round here, I work in the manufacturing industry...I find it difficult to understand where these people get their statistics from, as although Leeds is a busy city they can't afford to finish building stuff up as they are skintWhen will they benefit from the increase> ten years time? oh and how the hell they gonna cope with it, the roads are gridlocked in and out of there at rush hour every day!

But I digress..off topic slightly.

Only slightly... if people didn't have to drive so far from the only house they can afford to a job miles and miles away, fuel prices wouldn't bite so hard. I remember I used to be able to walk to work, hardly used the car. I then had a train pass (TOC employee) and got the train free, at least. Now even if I had a pass (not any more) public transport wouldn't get me to work in time for my hours. We've built a lovely house of straw for ourselves based on being able to drive everywhere, and now it's biting us in the bum.

Peg starts a new job a week Monday, in the hope he can generate more income seeing as though its practically impossible for me to go back to Wonkaville. Yorkshire is an absolute bumhole, as hes found out for making any amount of money that will keep you afloat.
For some strange reason they are sending him to Basildon for a week, yesterday he said to the fella who has taken him on, 'I hope you understand, but thats 200 odd miles away and pointed at the poofaggon, and in that its going to cost rather a lot to get there, you are sending me quite far away on my first day!' The fella swallowed quite hard and said, pop by Sunday and we'll give you the fuel money. we're paying you to stay in a hotel for the week too....phew!

I'm going to ask my mate pikey Richard, where to get myself a black and white pony from, so I can tether it outside the house on the grass verge, much cheaper to feed, and will make my garden grow nice with the by product

Anyroad, the things they can't afford to finish building are bullsh*t "luxury apartments" that they started before the big daft bubble burst and now you can't charge £100k for a broom cupboard any more.
It goes back to the idea of creating value, a service industry doesn't create any, just moves it about.

That market is rightfully f***ed, as it was a false one anyway. Obviously I'd be rather happy to see Leeds manufacturing on the rise.

Well no I wouldn't either Obviously it would benefit you greatly but how long are you prepared to wait while they build it up?

Hey maybe you can take my job at Willy Wonkas while you wait!

We can't but you get on with it - There is no option other things have to go out the window as fuel is needed to get the money in. I could save loads if I took the bus but I'm not allowed to as the Council deems it that I must have my car available. The pool cars are only at kirkie and Bishopbriggs - both on main bus routes for the offices whereas you cannot get a bus to bishopbriggs and 1 and hr to kirkie from milngavie. Not allowed on the bike incase i have to go to meetings and it not professional enough. I think they will be getting the two fingers this summer

I get paid 40p mile and £63 allowance we get a month doesn't even cover the extra commute now they have moved us offices.
And today i lose all my protection I've had thro single status - so I essentially take an £8k wage cut today.

Our locals are at £1.32 and £1.36 and will cost me £80 to fill the car which will last me 2 weeks.

At the moment, it is costing me around £130 in fuel in a month to drive back and forward to work.

Something has got to give though, the way I see it, all the fuel price is gonna do is drive the country even deeper into this recession, cause lets face it, we are sure as hell still in it. Haulage companies and bus companies are going to start going bust. People are buying less because of the price hikes on everything to try and cope with the extra cost to get it delivered.
