Also, the particle accelerator will be a vacum, so heat wont readily transmit (except only by radiation....not really by the normal particles-flying-about-all-over-the-place) so outside of the particle beam itself it won't be as hot (relativly speaking)

Anyway, thats sort of what I gather from a quick google
so what you are saying really is: dont stick your hand in it!

Excuse me sir, but isn't the "normal particles-flying-about-all-over-the-place" in fact how radiation of heat works? Energy spread by particles moving through air etc, and consequent collisions?

Also, at multiple thousands of times the temperature of the sun, liquid helium will probably heat sufficiently to turn into a gas, if not be completely vapourised.

But hey - if it blows up France I for one won't worry too much...

... and if it's gonna suck the rest of us in - well - at least we're close enough that we won't have to worry about it for long.

You don't know how an interaction with a black whole happens then.

Basically, time slows down, and everything is ripped apart as it's stretched excessively. Nice.

My GF is mightily ****ed off. It's her 21st on the 12th

Mind you, the reaction of the scientists was "If it doesn't end the world, great. If it DOES who'll ever know"

they also vibrate, the engery of which is lost by emmiting radiation....more specificaly, infra-red

I still cant see how they'll keep it cool either by the way, but i bet what i said has something to do with it

someone with more cleverness sort this out

Temperatures like that are contained within electromagnetic fields rather than a material as such. same as the stuff they use in fission research. in this case i think the heat will be in such small quantity that as Alipnestars has said, the tube itself will be enough to dissapate the heat.

speaking as a scientist, we very rarely know exactly what will happen when a new experement kicks of, but I'd hope if there was a possibility of engulfing the planet in a black hole someone, somewhere would have done their homework!

Oh yeah - (says I remembering the bit in the film 'The Black Hole' ) in that case I shall take it all laying down...

... it'd be nice to be a bit taller.
