Re: Oil burning after laid up
Some one has used a,"Honing" tool on the cylinders in an attempt to get some more mileage out of them.I used one on a set of barrels on one of my old Hondas.Worked a bit in oil reduction if done right but not a real fix compared with a re-bore and new pistons. As my Hondas had integral barrels it was a cheaper alternative than a re-bore and got another 10k out of that engine before it got too bad and became a ,"Two-Stroke"<grin>
I only paid £25 for the engine so........ HTH

Re: Oil burning after laid up
I have never seen bores scored like that! What on earth was done to them?

Re: Oil burning after laid up
There were no matching witness marks on the pistons so I'm somewhat at a loss.
I didn't pay for the original big bore "work" but someone paid £1800 for it >10 years ago. I'd be pretty ****ed off if I'd paid that much (I bought it second hand as a 700cc engine for the cost of a standard one) and seen how bad a job it was. The front of the rear cylinder was *covered* in rtv (presumably it leaked oil), re-used gaskets with sealant on etc. Then the dodgy front cylinder which wasn't round and the rear cylinder with the pitting that looks like casting flaws that have been "uncovered" by boring out and left. I know who did it but it was a very long time ago and I have no idea who *else* has touched it since so I'm not naming names.
