I don't think I would buy one that someone else has built. I'm looking for something to replace the bike obviously so weekends away and blasting round the dales etc. Classics are my thing but I've always fancied a seven. Just unsure how viable it is as I don't see the point as a dry weather toy.

there are 7 rep's out there which have a canvas roof & a screen and wipers, but don't expect anything comfortable if you get caught in a downpoor, the water will get through and the wipers won't be brilliant.

But then comfort and quiet and warmth isn't what the kits are about

You cant have it allways.
Nothing can replace a bike.
You can find destractions .

7 with a roof . just as pratical as sploshing about in the puddels as a bike.

I appreciate that I'll never find a car to replace a bike and I also feel as though I've been spoiled with the speed four as it feels almost as if the bike was made for me. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to carry on biking after I get back to work hence this thread.

I rode the bike in all weather's and loved every min of it. However I don't see the point of donning a full face helmet and waterproof suit if I was going away for the weekend. Just seeing how people dealed with it.

Start small buy a midget, and I don't mean a small person to pleasure your sexual deviant side I mean the MG variety.
They're tax exempt now and with the mono body you can pretty much do what the hell you like underneath it.

Or start even smaller and buy a classic mini.

I used to have a mini. Several infact. The last line was a 1959 pre production model that I slid to a guy in France. It would be worth a small fortune now. Classic wise a midget is on the list along with a .gt6 and a tvr chimera. All interesting stuff.

Driven a vtec mini and it was scary fast but spoiled the car imo.

Probably quiff. I love the bike but can't see me getting back on as the pain it's caused others from falling off slower than I would have been going on my mtb!

A mate of mine built a Robin Hood 7 - was his first go and intended as a learning curve to building his own from scratch. He found it OK but pretty dull just assembling things, and the donor gear (Ford stuff) was a sod to find in good condition and to strip down as he went the part kit route. Was not bad in the end but required a LOT of alteration to make things fit - you WILL need a welder.

He went on to a scratch build after that and got to the bodywork stage before giving up. He was living in his garage and ended up hating it.

So, get two classics - one in OK nick to drive now while you work on a gentle restoration on another!
