Took one out on an extended test ride and I completely agree in that it feels 'easier' to ride. I think that's probably the quality parts (brakes, suspension etc.) shining through - to me it really made the bike one cohesive unit.

Massively impressed, and I reckon balls to the idea that an inexperienced rider shouldn't have one. I think it's a very forgiving bike. Just note that an inexperienced rider probably shouldn't get carried away and start ragging the tits off it because it has the capability to get you into seriously high speed trouble. But like all bikes, the throttle goes both ways.

If you have an end can on the SV and can bear to trade in that lovely rumble...

MY MATES FATHER (59) returned to biking after 30ish years, so me & his son sugested a sv........ which he got, but he was not happy with it, he wanted to swap for my blade.

anywho,........... he then px the sv for a 6 month old vfr800, and bought a 1999 thundercat & and a 2000 kwack er5

he loved the cat, so sold the rest

the moral of the story?

err........ the SV is a good 1st bike, but its not for everyone?

All,

This is great feedback particularly from those who have used the CBR, I have heard nothing that says 'Don't do it' although I take note of the cautionary advice and believe me after 27 years of driving I have seen and done some scary stuff so won't be going silly on it.

I got an online Insurance quote for just over £400, which didn't seem bad but haven't got a quote from my insurance yet.

Anyway I will keep reading and see if I can justify the cost.

Thanks again!

I did a track day on a CBR600RR lovely bike on the track , for the road if you do a lot of mileage would go for std CBR600F, if you are on a tight budget the steel framed CBR's are a great bike (almost bought one instead of the sv), I'm in your neck of the woods ( Bromsgrove) , where are you thinking of buying the CBR from ?

Cheers Steve

I got the SV from Knotts and they did a quote for the CBR but Doble have a Pre-reg(07), zero mile, RR7 for 6200 that I was considering.

It sounds like a good ploy by the dealer to get someone on a bike that they probably wouldnt consider. When I took mine for a service I was offered a taxi ride home or a CB500

I would like to try a GSXR 750 but have only ever ridden one modern 4 cylinder and that was a Z1000.

Provided the bike suits you and the insurance is affordable then a RR sounds like fun.

Does anyone know a dealer who has an Aprilia Factory as a courtesy bike

I've bought bikes from Knotts before , good dealer however never the cheapest , when I bought my sv new just searched for cheapest price , then get it serviced somewhere else . I think knotts / motorcycle mart at the time were doing sv650's for 4k , I got mine from Highways (not recommend , except for price ) for 3650

Cheers Steve

I think your right, it worked! Believe me I sort of wish they hadn't because I would have still been happy on the SV.
