It's more important to vary your rev range than to just ride at 5500 all day.

Tight country B roads with tight bends and wee straights to get you up and down the gearbox and vary your speeds from 30 - 75mph are good for running in. Good for getting used to the bike and more interesting than going for long motorway runs at 75mph as well.
Agreed. You are running in the gearbox and brakes as well.

Also don't labour the engine. Try and keep it over 3000 revs and avoid large throttle openings at low revs. Also don't be too aggresive on the throttle.

its easy to sit on the A5 and get your 500 or 600 miles done in a week or so but like pete said the idea is to use all the gears and brakes too so the whole thing bed's in, mind you i have read that there really is no need for breaking in these days as engines are so robust and reliable, id do it per book just to be certain tho with the odd higher burst of rev's just on overtakes.

What if the bike is restricted to 33hp? Do you need to run it in at all? My local dealer reckons not...
