The silver is there to give it that perlencent/matalic look, as the blue is quite dark,

The silver is supplied as the base coat, when ordering the colour make sure you buy ths aswell
Ok, does it need to be any particular shade of Silver or are there only limited base coat shades? Will a paint shop know which one if I specify the YC2 top coat colour do you think?

Luckily for me I'll be spraying everything so should all end up the same shade I hope.

sorry, I'm new to this paint job milarky too,
I recently got a laod of advice ffrom a reputable paintshop. In my case for example Y9H or pearl lively yellow, needs a white basecoat. Its what they call a 'mica' paint(whatever that is) a pearl colour needs to be put on in very thin layers. a lot of patience is required. Depending on how much your original paintwork has 'faded' depends on how much it wil match up in tone. But if you get a good finishing compound like 'G4' or to us common folk T cut, it will bring down the tone a little to something more to your liking

Does that make sense at all, it didn't to me til i started painting. then found i need some cellulose thinner cause the touch up paints a little thick.

Oh and if you are spraying...do it somewhere warm. The paint goes on betterer

Pearl is the type of colour, mainly a metalic/pearl finish.
silver/blue kind of colour.

Spraying your panels is not an easy job, and you need to know waht your doing, and not to rush it.

Best results I find can be made with temps over 15 oC as spraying in cold / damp conditions can affect the finish of the job in hand

ok, I'm up for giving this a go though. Its a race bike so not the end of the world if I dont get showroom finish on teh first attempt. I can start on something small to get the hang of it.

Yes, when you order the paint, the shop should now by the colour which silver to give you, they did for me.

but if you are spraying all your panels, you should match then up easy.

Oh i've found the paintshop instruction sheet now.

COB pearl mica/COB Candy.....to obtain original finish must be applied over correct matt finish base.

Spray 3-4 uniform light coats...allowing 10-15 mins between coats at 20*C. allow to dry at 20*C for 20-30 mins....do not apply a thck coat the overcoat with 2K clear lacquer

please note ..the number of coats will affect the final colour thus comparison should be made with the original paintwork

a good tip off my best mate in france is apparently to put your can of paint in a jug of hot water for a couple of mins, with the lid off, before you use it....it makes the paint come out finer. Shes rather good at this sort of thing..we call her GOD. cause if she don't know, no one will....lol

if your going to do it by cans, 400ml you'll need a few!

I done 2 panels with 1 silver base coat, 1 blue , and 1 laqaur.

You'll have 8 panels in total , if you have the full faired set up. so need about

4 x silver 10.99 each apx
4 x yc2 blue 10.99 each apx

4 x laqaur. 8.99 each apx.

so near to £100 to do the job, + your rubbing down paper. use 240 600 1200 grade.

ok, didnt realise it cost that much but what the hell. I have race bodywork so panels are different and I'll be using loose paint and a compressor rather than aerosol. I'll pop over to the paint shop and let them show me the damage

Is this the first time you've ever tackled it Bad-sv? cause I think you've done a rather good job if you have. Its back to the drawing board with me. Sometimes I wish I had hge scuffs instead of long deep scratches. Did it try your patience or did it all go smooth?
