Don't know where you are but you can get to Portsmouth Dock train station by rail from anywhere, it's literally next to the Wightlink ferry terminal for the fast cat service, if you did want to come and have a look i can pick you up from the terminal this side and drop you back there afterwards. If you're closer to the Midlands then there's greamepeterson's bike, which i'm sure is another solid used buy. The SV is a lot of new bike for ?4100, but a ?600-1000 saving will buy you a tasty exhaust and your first years insurance (it does get easier, mine would go from ?550 to ?310 if i were re-insuring her come the 20th)

have you tried www.confused.com for insurance? they take into account if you drive a car and have NCB for that too so they have found me some great deals the last few years. the best thing you can do for your quote is garage the bike, if that's not possible then buy (and USE!!!) a big mofo chain, almax always seem to be recommended over other manufacturers

Well I tried a quote on Confused (used it for the car before but not bikes) and it came out 700 ish from "Dial Direct" with no alarm/immob, but an excess of 950! Also nearly all insurance companies these days seem to want that first 200 odd quid deposit, which I can see the reason behind I think, but annoying nontheless.

As for my location, i'm living in Ealing, London at the moment, though work sees me up in Cheshire quite a bit in the week, and sometimes Birmingham at weekends if i'm too lazy to go back to London! Hopefully i'll be able to stop in one place for a while soon though.

Out of interest, when is the next service after the 4k one? And what was done at 4K if you don't mind my asking?

Ooh also, are these indicators, hugger/extender, tail tidy etc things that need me telling the insurers? I would assume so as it's obviously stuff you'd want replaced in any event...

You'll be looking at high excesses in the first year from anyone i reckon, they're pretty much the norm for new riders. the excess this year for me would only be £150 so it does get better the 2nd year, assuming you don't bin it. are you listing the bike as garaged or with any heavy duty chains? in london your quotes are going to be higher than somewhere like the isle of wight but £700 seems pretty high still. you could try www.gocompare.com or www.moneysupermarket.com but i've found confused is usually the cheapest

There is a direct service to Portsmouth from London Waterloo, around 90 minutes journey time iirc (although tbh that probably equates to about 4 hours in the real world)

The next service after 4000 is at **edit: 7500** miles, the worklog for the 4k service says:

Work Completed:

Service Incl. check all cables, adjust clutch, change oil + filter, check spark plugs, clean sir filter, bleed brakes, check pads, lube drive chain, balance throttle bodies, clean and lube all moving parts

This was carried out on the 7th April

I told my insurers about the hugger, tail tidy when i got the first quote through express insurance as they came fitted to the bike when it was new, the insurers included them in the overall price of the vehicle, something like "official accessories" iirc. you can list the value of the vehicle to include the extras, then if you do need to claim you have reason to get more back to get a vehicle to replace yours "like for like" if you get me

When i fitted my street extreme exhaust they added it to the policy notes but wouldn't cover the replacement of that part, only with a standard exhaust (i think that's fairly universal to insurers) - i never told them about the indicators or bulbs, because they're cheap to replace.

Ok I am now officially 'interested' in your motorcycle.

Did a few more quotes, seems about 650 which i'm not too annoyed about, i'm not tempted to TPFT it anyway!

Right, as I say i'll be DAS'ing this week and passing the test Friday up in Nottingham.

I think I need to drive back to London that weekend anyway (10th May), would you be free at some time during the weekend for me to pop over? I'd probably drive down as I am an idiot/like driving!

You're more than welcome to drive down or get the train, be aware that if you bring a car over to the island this time of year the ferry companies will take one of your arms and one of your legs as payment, or failing that you should check the current prices on www.wightlink.co.uk or www.redfunnel.co.uk - they will be astromonical i promise. there should be places you can park in southampton or portsmouth to get the foot passenger ferrys across but they will also be expensive.

i should say i have one person who technically has first dibs here on the island, although it's my (bear with me) friend's vet's friend who is coming over from australia and is looking for something to tour europe on with my friend's vet. i will contact him tomorrow and let him know it's fairly urgent he contact me asap if he's interested

if you send me a PM with a contact number i'll get in touch as soon as possible to let you know what the situation is, cheers

I'm insured with NIG (I think) as they did the free insurance for the year and I stayed with them. Because of my one claim in that time (Grrr!) they quoted me pretty high. I'm paying ?650 to keep it in Kent pretty safely. I asked for a quote for a secure private car park in London (SE1) and they more than doubled it!!! So it stays in Kent. However, my point is the XS is nothing like what they're trying to get you for. Also, I then went on to confused.com and found insurance even cheaper. How long have you had your licence? That may be a factor as I've had mine a few years now. You might also approach whoever does your car insurance over the phone and (if they do bike insurance too) try to haggle a deal for being a good customer. Works well for smaller insurers especially if you have a few policies with them, i.e. your family's cars etc.. Or look to re-insure your car and your bike with the same insurer and try to get it cheaper as a bundle?
Good Luck - it's the nastiest bit about biking!!

Oh ps - do NOT go for just TPFT - take my advice, fully comp all the way!! especially if you're on finance. It just takes one idiot to wreck your machine, and you're in tears

if you are going for bungs dont let them fit the Suzuki OEM ones as the brackets are made of cheese and they are useless.

R & G's or Motosliders are what you are after IMHO.
