I went from 650 naked curvy to a 1000 naked.
Loads more power just about everywhere. With moderate riding I get about 15-20 miles less per tank than I got before but on long haul probably about the same. (about 10p per mile at £1 per litre) When I first got it I though it handled like a barge, but new tyres (originals were very squared) and a bit more confidence and I now chuck it about a lot more than I ever did the 650. Suspension and brakes are miles better although worth spending a few quid getting the suspension set up for your riding style once you've got used to it as it will have been set up for a 6 stone Japanese bloke. If you want to make out you've just got a really fast 650 I've got a 2 into 1 race can for sale so it'll look a lot more like a 650 but go like stink. Best bet is to try one (not worry too much abotu the apparent lack of handling) and then try some other stuff too before buying one. I had huge problems finding one to test ride so ended up pretty much buying blind but got it at the right price to make the gamble worthwhile. You'll be hard pressed to find a better value for money meaty Vtwin although a Firestorm was right up on the top of my list had the right one come along.

Honestly, I reckon the Firestorm is more like a 650 than the SV thou.

I've heard it described as "a brilliant first liter bike" ... which is guaranteed to cause nobody to want one.
Hornet 900 I found utterly boring. Did everything perfectly. Had power there, but didn't incite you to use it.

I'm really enjoying my thou after up-grading from a 650SK3. I'm always amazed by the 'heavy handling' tag and am very happy with the way mine handles on stock suspension. Wouldn't mind some Gixxer 1000 K5 usd's just for the bling factor though.

I'm thinking of getting a thou', a faired one. A couple of weeks back I saw a faired thou' with the handlebars from a naked (I assume the top yoke aswell) and if I did get one, thats one modification I would want to do. Has anyone done that mod? Was there any modification to the fairing required? What else would I have to think about (I've already considered brake line legth)?
Cheers, Matt |

Same method and work as doing it with a Pointy 650 Matt.

darn, off I go a-searching then
![]() soooo 1999 SV650s might be up for sale next year (april?)....might even remove the topbox + rack if it helps it sell for a bit more money ![]() [edit] hmmm...cant find the answers I need. I was thinking of a straight swap with the top yoke and handlebars from the naked sv1000, worried about fouling the fairing etc at full locks Last edited by Alpinestarhero; 08-11-08 at 05:57 PM. |

IMO the Falco is what the SV1000 should have been, it feels similar the SV650 to ride (asin easy) but has more power and better equipment (brakes suspension etc) and an engine that is so flexible its amazing, pull from 2K rpm happily which for a twin is a good effort.
