I'm with Express and it has to be in the garage between 10pm and 8am if within 1/2mile of my house or it won't be covered. They also stated that the garage has to be brick/concrete block.

Im with Express too. The policy does specify a brick constructed garage, which I havent got. Got a metal bike safe thing which Express said was OK though.

Best to give your Insurer a call to see if they can make an exception and what security they will require.

Thanks for all the replies, looks like I'll have to give them a call. Definetly going to get a shed anyway as I don't want to keep the bike outside and don't have room for a proper garage. If I don't get a discount for having it garaged, is the policy likely to go up in price condiderably? Anyone had any experience? Suppose I'll find out when I call.

I asked my insurers about this because I built a timber garage (couldnt be arsed to do blockwork) and they put it down as a "timber garage".
When I told them that sometimes The bike is kept in the hallway of my house they said "well that changes everything".
I asked what they meant and they said that if its in a garage its ok but if you leave it IN your house its classed as "within the boundarys" (the same as being left on the drive).
This didnt make any sense at all to me.
My insurers class a "timber built garage" a safer option to "parked in the hallway less than 20 feet from the bedroom where I sleep".

Couldnt get my head round that.

They're utter ******s. For some reason 3party fire and theft is cheaper than third party only for me. I hate them , stupid vulturing *******s.

call your insurer and ask, that way you will know for sure...

My clause is "garage or smillarily secured building, My Metal shed was more secure due to the security installed.
