depending upon your ISP address allocation, you could theoretically have say a /28 address range etc. You could then put multiple routers behind a switch connected to your modem. You might do this if you want a small DMZ or to separate voip traffic from network traffic etc. which is exactly what I did for my brother business. 1 phone line, 1 modem, 1 switch, 2 routers, 2 VoIP ATAs etc.
Biggest requirement I can think of is where you have multiple gamers in one house. Some game sites to not permit multiple players to use the same IP address so a conventional NAT router solution would not be suitable.
