thermo plastic is "plastic" very strong tho, cheaper lids tend to be thermo plastic and more expencive ones "fibre glass or carbon" all lids are made to a standard, the price is second issue its first issue is which fits u best.

i once tryed to break a thermo plastic lid by bouncing it off the floor to see how strong they were, well, i couldnt break it, not even a crack.

If it fits, then it's up to you. I'd NEVER buy one without trying it on first though, bad idea.

My bmw fibreglass/kevlar one is stupidly strong for the thickness of it.

try before you buy, and HJC aren't that bad.

I got one of these last year from Mick Byrne Direct in black with white stripe and a free rainbow tint visor for £45 (brand new). Been well pleased with it and would have another

Well, I got the HJC one. Despite the other one being a rebranded Box lid for Tesco and only £20 post free, I bought the HJC.

nah, rather put my head in an eggshell.
you buy the best your budget will allow. if it'll only stretch to 30 quid then i'd get the bus.

Yeah, I hear you, but is a £30 lid really so bad when it normally retails at £80 and has passed the quality assessments? It has the gold badge on the rear and a kitemark. That's got to count for something.

Plus the lid I'm replacing (as previously stated) is a 10 year old Shark Fs600 that only ever cost £90 in 1999. Surely new HJC will offer more protection than the old Shark in a spill.

Trying to be as optimistic as possible: I know someone who's crahsed badly in a '£50 rrp' lid (nitro) and it saved him, only downside was it split in two which they shouldn't but who cares it saved him. My mates crashed in the lid you've just bought before and he was ok was only a 20mph one but still managed to grindaway a lot of the chin piece. Every crash is different so it's impossible to predict anyway. A 200mph slide designed arai may not save you from a 20mph sideways impact a cheap hjc would no point trying to read into it too much. Only thing you can do is keep an eye on the linings and make sure they fit properly after a few weeks, month years if it get's too loose it'll just snap your neck in a crash.

being pessimistic: don't crash.
