tank up, airbox off, long screw driver. But if the plunger screws are seized you'll probably need to loosen the carbs and lift them (but not completely remove them) and crack off the screws then pull out the plungers clean any rust or limescaley stuff off and grease em.

No problem, if you leave it you might find they'll seize on the choked up position which'll mean inconsistant running and probably cutting out which is a night mare.

yep lol, do a search it's a well covered topic on here. Yorkie chris even posted a vide with the best technique to smack the bolts with a hammer to loosen them up. You might find the need for a dremmel or junior hacksaw if the bolt ends feck up.

Probably 'cos the choke's part on, which does wonders for your fuel consumption & rideability. As others say, fix it. Your SV IS the journey & short cuts can only spoil that.

yep, I had the choke part on on my bike which was a night mare, cutting out whenever I changed gear or stopped at lights then once warm would idle about 4000 revs which doesn't sound too bad until your clutch plates are warped and the thing tries to take off even with the clutch in!
All sorted now thank god.

Dave when you say grease the plungers. Which parts should you do as I don't think mine are sealing properly.

To be honest someone is likely to pull me on this as I made it up as I went along so this may be bad advice *but* since it's mainly air in there (I think??) I just slapped bearing grease all over them and plonked them in then copper greased the knackered screw (ideally you want to replace them with s/s screws but I'm impatient) and tightened it all up. More grease round the top and between the covering plate might help with sealing.

Any hoo a couple of thousand miles down the lines it's fine. The reason I got impatient was that was the second time I'd had to do it in like 3 weeks. First time I just used multipurpose fork spray oil stuff and I was still getting issues so I greased it all up properly and tripple checked the seals against the inlets and airbox on each carb as a leak at the inlet will give very similar symptoms to a ballsed choke plunger

Yeah. I'm having problems with my front carb I think.

Just need to get that sorted to see if it fixes the problem. I may have some debries in the carb somewhere clogging one of the jets.
