I think I will give it a go and see what happens, I spose its best to learn that way if it needs doing again it shall become a lot easier for me.
The worry that I have got is are these measurements that I've just taken going to be ok? I mean should I take them as gospel considering what I've just done on the rear cyclinder ? |

do you think its worth when you say remeasure them to spin the engine over anti clockwise again and remeasure each time with new tdc to check

It doesn't take long to check, so why not. As I said I tend not to fuss about TDC and just have the lobes facing away from the buckets at this point.
At the point you remove the cams you want to be absolutly certain on the timing markers though. Have you got: A Haynes manual. A set of ball headed allen keys & deep sockets to remove the cam chain tensioners (the rear's a little fiddley, I think it's a 5mm allen). A torque wrench suitable for values of ~10Nm A Micrometer? Have you checked all the bolts holding the cam carriers, the bolts from the pulley to the shaft etc?
Look for any lose bolts first - my kawasaki had a bolt come lose where the cam sprocket bolted to the cam rod and that made a very loud ticking sound. Does the ticking speed up as the revs increase or is it a constant speed. (Good advice by the way jambo - better than Haynes) |

Hi,
yeah il take some pics tomorrow for you although im slightly unsure what exactly you want pics of. the ticking sound is very loud it sounds like the cam chain in the front cylinder. I can hear the ticking over my pipe when i ride and that is loud. Everytime i get ready to set off on the bike and i click it into gear the bike kills so i have to restart in gear or rev it rele high when i select first. I have the same trouble at roundabouts and junctions etc. |
