Nowadays you can still buy Midland units from Maplins. I believe you still need a licence but thats about it. Last time i even listened to one, it was full of people thinking its a free radio sation. You will need an ariel as well. Mag mount is the best. I had a KT40 back in the day 8ft of pure whippy hapiness

I spent years on CB's. I had Legal FM units and a couple of Illegal AM units with sideburners, HUGE whip ariels, 240 channels, up n down side bands chatting to people form all over the world...yes really. I chatted to a bloke in Brazil once. etc etc.

One four for a copy....oh yesh. Now wheres my Smokey and the Bandit and convoy movies?

Edit:
It is now no longer necessary to hold a Wireless Telegraphy (WT) Act licence in order to operate Citizens’ Band Radio equipment, providing that the equipment is operated in accordance with the WT (Exemption) (Amendment) Regulations 2006.

Aaah, CB Radio. My dad had one with an external PA, great for scaring the sh!t out of old biddies and anyone who pulled out in front of you.

Anyone else used to do treasure hunts? One of my dad's mates used to hide on the edge of the woods, with a camouflage net over the top of the car - b'stard

It stopped being fun once it was legalised

Husky

My lad just got one for off-roading. He got a reconditioned one it off ebay and it was cheap. Nice thing about this one is it adjusts itself for SWR. I'll find out what he has.

Ive had in wagons before now, my handle was tomcat, got bored after a while though, only ever used for directions, try a truck stop. I had midland gear with a k40 ariel, a ''k whopper'' as we used to call em, all you need is a set and an ariel, you could use an amp, a burner to boost your signal, but all that ever did was block everyone else's signal iirc, must be some on ebay
like this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MIDLAND-ALAN-9...d=p3286.c0.m14

I used to have an old AM international jumbo on a Dv27s on a biscute tin covered in tin foil...
then my dad gave permission for me to put up a 20 foot antena on the side of the house...
My handel back then was Jaws ( the Bond one) as I had a metal tooth.
God how old do I feel now?

I used to have a midland rig, till some b'stard pinched it out my car on the uni car park. Went on demos to get them made legal etc.

Never saw the point of it though when they said yes you can have CB but on the wrong band and with sod all power. I think that was just to placate the ham lot who thought of CB users as pirates.

Still these days I have a naughty Chineese 5w radio that I use with the autocom. Having had a mate come off in an mobile blackspot, we realised the advantage of being able to communicate in more that the mile you get with PMR

My God that was it a DV27. The bloke round the back of out shop used to run an ariel of some kind a a 2k burner with a car bonnet as the ground plane! It used to glow ever so slightly.
