Can you ping the sites? Try doing a traceroute using tracert command to figure out where you are stopped.

start, run, cmd, tracert site url

Don`t worry Beabert , I read his post and thought I had digested it all and still missed the bit where he mentions he also tried it with IE . The reason I think it is his router is that all the connections from all the household PC`s have to go through that to get to the outside world . Now there was something of Issue with my Home Hub 2 a while back where a common site I used for Xbox news was blocked . I cannot for the life of me , remember what it was but the router had taken it upon itself to block that site . I would click on it and be greeted with a white page , a green progress bar and the word "Done" in the bottom left hand corner ......... despite there being a total lack of words , pictures and the complete lack of any colour whatsoever . This is why I asked Wolfie if he has a BT HH2 .

You skipped the same line as me then mr badger lol.

Running a traceroute will establish where his problem is, then armed with this he can ring up his ISP and have a moan, or take a hammer to the router.

Incidently, if after checking if its the router try flashing is to a newer firmware.

Yup

And this is another reason why I asked if he had a Home Hub 2 as they update themselves over the net automatically and they have known issues with this and flashing to new firmware .

Sorry for the late reply...

Router is a Netgear DG834T/GT something like that

Router lookup says the org IP is 79.123.35.160 but that doesn't connect to the normal forums page...

tracert won't run the org urls http://www.forums.sv650.org or http://forums.sv650.org - error it gives is: "Unable to resolve target system for http..."

Just flushed the DNS - no change

Don't think it;s a DNS problem and the coputer not only resolves the name, it connects to the org server (hence registering my page view or search attempt) before hanging

Right do me a favour mate , switch the PC off , unplug the router from the PSU for about 30 seconds , plug it back and let it connect to ADSL then boot your PC up and try again .
