So many of us would like to leave but it's so easy to forget that so many want to come.
And what has the age that schoolkids are tested in Wales (for what?? - clap???) got to do with the price of eggs? I haven't a clue what the answer is ![]() Well done on passing. Does this give you indefinite leave to remain, or do you now become a British citizen? Or do you have to do more tosh for that? |

From memory, most kids in the UK are given a national test at 7, 11, and 14, and I think in Wales the national tests are only at 14, but the teachers evaluate them (non-national tests) at 7 and 11... or something like that. The test is the same whether applying for indefinite leave to remain or citizenship, but you only have to write it once. In my case I'm applying for indefinite leave to remain as I've only been here 2 years - I think I need 3 years before I can apply for citizenship, and it will no doubt cost more money still. I quite often get the "Are you crazy?" question when people find out where I lived. Honestly though, you could eat fillet steak every day and pretty soon you're going to get bored of it and look for something different. This country (and Scotland, and presumably Wales - I have yet to visit) has some amazing scenery, history (there are pubs far, far, older than my country), culture and so on. It's still "new" to me even after 2 years, with plenty of pleasant suprises, and when I do feel like something even more different I can fly to most places in Europe in a few hours for very little money (the sort of trip that would be once in a lifetime, if at all, for most North Americans). I've been fortunate and done quite a bit of travelling over they years before I moved here. I've been to plenty of amazing places, but have yet to be to one without problems of it's own. Often it seems the better it seems on the surface, the bigger the problems. Ignoring any patriotic feelings, I don't think Canada is any better than the UK, just different. I really enjoy living here, but there is one other place I'd go to if I had a chance: Australia. Not that I think it's perfect, but it's similar, and has great weather of course. I've lived nearly 40 years in the cold and wet and would be really, really happy to live somewhere warm.
