There seems to be some confusion over this rideout/event, its not St Georges day (april 23) but on mothers day march 14th and was organised by the mother of a troop killed by an explosion to raise funds by way of an entrance fee to RAF Lyneham (£5). It is not a memorial event like the RTTW event. So best to attend both if possible.

No confusion, Ian. This rideout was originally on St George's Day, but has now been changed to take part in the Help For Heroes rideout instead.

I will most likely be attending this rideout, not because it has anything to do with the government, but because it has to do with supporting our Soldiers abroad. Come the date of the ride I know some people who will be serving with the army in Afghanistan and the small entrance fee that I will be paying (£5) is going to an excellent cause to help boost the moral of the soldiers abroad. This also serves to remind them that our thoughts are with them and that we support them wholly regardless of our political opinions.

I know for a FACT that soldiers love the work that the involved charity do. Even a small gift to a soldier makes them feel that much closer to home. If anyone shows up to voice political opinions or protest then shame on them for spoiling the meaning of the event.

As for the St. Georges Day/Scottish/welsh thing, seriously, get over it. I quite frankly could not care less which corner of our fair Island(s) the person comes from, it makes no difference. If someone wishes to organise an event for the military on St. Andrews day then that is great, we are all on the same side after all. People need to stop being so touchy about the geographical location of their birth.

Good post, I'll be there too.
If it makes just a few troops think that what they are doing is appreciated, then to my mind it's worth it.
Plus, it a good excuse to have a ride-out.

Also agree with the last sentence, it doesn't matter where in England, Wales, Scotland or the other bits attached to us you come from.
You will never be as lucky as us born in Yorkshire
