From what I can tell everything that can be undone is undone I believe/

Yea definitly the gearbox, the previous owner had some issues with it before but never told me about, and when I looked through his posting history on here he was asking about problems with it.

The sympton is when I release the throttle the bike drops out of gear and when the bike stops theres a whirling noise then it will suddenly crunch back in but stalls the bike, Im pretty sure it could be the dog clips are shagged!

I don't remember having that much grief with mine, how are you actually trying to remove it?

From memory I tilted it down slightly at the front, moved it forwards and dropped it down.

Typically I don't have a picture of me removing it so have one of the 700 being installed

No, nor me. I remember thinking how easy it was, that's why I thought one of the castellated spacers was still in place. Maybe there's a spacer that's corroded to the frame or engine that doesn't look like a spacer

I could be wrong but I thought that was the bit just above the VIN plate.

The only issue I remember I had was that the bike wasn't high enough to roll the engine out on the jack so had to drop it off onto some old cushions and drag it out. If I ever do it again I'll raise the bike up higher before I start[1].

[1] Although I have a plan to stick an overhead hand crane into the new garage in which case I'd just drop it onto a skateboard type thing and lift the bike if needed.

I've just had another look and realized your problem, that 'boss' is on the other side to where I originally was thinking of, there is a clamp bolt (that also holds the idle adjuster) and that removes. In fact you can just about tell in that last picture that I've removed it (although easier if you zoom in[1]).

Yes the idle adjuster is held in place by a bolt, remove that bolt and that clamps a spacer which looks to be the one you are stuck on.
